Apologies if there is another thread for this. I have looked but couldn’t see a natural home.
With the current craze of making simplified / mini pedals, can I ask if there are any plans to do a much more simplified / cheaper version of the Talking Machine?
I don’t want to stick a tube in my mouth and I am extremely pleased with my other EHX pedals but the Talking Machine has too much functionality and is therefore too dear for me as I only need it for one or two songs.
Rather than a full blown Talking Machine I sort of just need a Chatter Box at the same sort of money as a Soul Food.
Reduce the functionality to take out components and put it in a box that’s used for something else to save money.
Suggested spec:
All of these suggestions are only unless its cheaper to keep the circuitry in place to reduce R&D costs – balance between increased R&D costs against increase component and manufacturing costs:
Keep the 7 vowel sounds to save redevelopment costs unless reducing to 5 gives a significant saving
Lose the Wah and Baseballs functions
Lose the loop functionality
Lose the reverse sweep function
Mono not stereo
Lose the expression pedal function
Lose the fuzz
3 or 4 rotor knobs – Blend, Vowel Sound, and then either Sensitivity or Decay & Attack. The way I would use this is
Set the Attack and Decay to 12 and leave it there (so maybe fix this and not have the knobs to keep case production cheaper)
I would choose a vowel sound I like and then mostly leave it there but I would want to be able to change it.
I would choose a blend setting I like and then mostly leave it there but I would want to be able to change it.
I would choose a Sensitivity setting I like and then mostly leave it there but I would want to be able to change it.So for me – same box as the Soul Food to save making a different box on & off foot switch + 3 knobs – vowel, blend and sensitivity – one in and one out. 9v battery or optional PSU. Priced the same as Soul Food.
There is nothing else out there at EHX quality and at this price point. There is a DW400 but the vowel sounds are not as good as the Talking Machine

I think it works pretty well, but I can’t use it live because it doesn’t have a mic out and I don’t want two mics in front of me when I perform. I posted something about this a month or two ago.

Appreciate the thought though and apart from needing a mic its pretty close
