Do to this bad economy I’m considerring selling all my pedals to buy a black finger. I would be selling my russian black muff, little big muff, boss ce-5 chorus ensemble, ibanez TS9 tubescreamer, digitech screamin blues distortion, and a dunlop crybaby standard wah pedal? If anyone has a black finger and would like to trade let me know. Or just give you give me you opinions on this swap or the black finger.

Do you use those other pedals? (it is certainly, at least, a surprising and dramatic swap! )
January 6, 2009 at 10:29 pm #90212teles4lifeMemberI know it sounds stupid but used pedals sell soooo low for some reason
January 6, 2009 at 11:43 pm #90216Ned FlandersModeratorDo you use and like your other pedals? If you do selling is a mistake, if you don’t then maybe sell them but know you will loose lots of money selling so many pedals. I try to never sell any pedals because 1) collect them 2)You loose too much money 3) I love pedals. The only pedals I’ve ever sold/swapped is my micro synth (unusable for me) and my HBE treble booster (also unusable, swapped it for a vintage small stone)
January 7, 2009 at 12:35 am #90218BlueSteelParticipantIn my opinion don’t do it. Try saving a little money each week and then eventually you would have saved enough money to buy it and you wouldn’t have to sell all your old ones.
January 7, 2009 at 1:12 am #90220MINGMemberSave up. I’ve seen them locally for $80 to $135 used. I paid $125, I think thats what I paid anyways. You’ll have the dough in no time.
January 7, 2009 at 1:39 am #90221Fender&EHX4everModeratorThe Black Finger is to my pedal board what white paint is to painters – not very exciting, but hard to imagine painting without it.
January 7, 2009 at 8:22 am #90235julianModeratorI wouldn’t do it

Blues £20
crybably £30£185
used Black finger £90
…..so no, that sounds like a poor deal to me.
January 10, 2009 at 7:40 pm #90403CostchParticipantI’ve never really cared for compression, so I obviously wouldn’t do it, but that’s just me.
January 10, 2009 at 8:49 pm #90408John JMemberThe Black Finger isn’t much of a compressor in the traditional sense, it’s more of a tonal augmentation. It smooths your playing out and warms it up without squashing it – even in squash mode. If I was stuck with one pedal for the rest of my life, it would be a toss up between this and a looper.
That having been said, don’t trade in all of your pedals until you’ve locked them up in a room for a month to see how you can fare without them. The Black Finger is NOT an effect, you are essentially going to be playing with nothing in your chain except for a subtle studio compressor. It’s a big step, what kind of amp are you using?
January 24, 2009 at 12:11 am #91525CostchParticipantI’m talking to you, the black finger is not really worth it.
January 24, 2009 at 1:02 am #91531ChumleyParticipantIt depends. My first reaction is DON’T DO IT!, but if you never use your pedals, and you NEED a compressor, go ahead.

My first reaction is DON’T DO IT!, but if you never use your pedals, and you NEED a compressor, go ahead. That makes sense, but I am not a compressor user, so I would not be able to justify such an action. There are cheaper compressors (do you really need a tube driven one? Perhaps a soul preacher or white finger would suffice.) But do whatever YOU think should be done. But if your pedals are never used, and you can’t see yourself having a change of heart, then by all means sell them. Otherwise, I would hold on to them incase of emergency (because no glass breaking will cure a tone hankering, and no amount of pot would make that lame joke funny). I hope my nonsensical ramblings are of some use.
