Is anyone having trouble with the Superego “hearing” your signal in AUTO mode? Even with my volume on fully with any of my guitars through any of my amps trying multiple guitar cables it only picks up half of the notes played and at that only on the high strings. When I play excessively hard, THEN it picks up my most of what I play in AUTO. I’m on the verge of returning this pedal if this is the best that I can expect. This is the first time that I’m disappointed with any EHX product. It just doesn’t live up to the hype. Stick with the Freeze a truly cool pedal.
November 22, 2012 at 5:03 pm #118431CaptainMooseParticipantYeah, auto mode seems a lil unresponsive, but I still prefer my superego. I’ve only tried the freeze, but as far as I know, the superego can do ANYTHING the freeze can, and more!
November 22, 2012 at 5:18 pm #118432crazymilo12ParticipantI have since found a way to get great sounds AND get the Superego to hear all of them regardless of whether I use my guitar inn series, parallel, in phase or out of phase, or in split coil. I now put an MXR 10 band EQ before the Superego with the gain bumped up so that the Superego hears it all.
November 22, 2012 at 9:53 pm #118433CaptainMooseParticipantNice dude, glad to hear it, cuz I just got mine yesterday, and I’m still learning how to properly use it. I can tell this is gonna take a LONG time to master, which is a good thing!
November 23, 2012 at 8:30 pm #118435CaptainMooseParticipantSweet dude, I took your idea and turned my amp down and my GE-7 up and auto mode works perfect now. Thanks!
November 28, 2012 at 11:27 am #118452LhamaMemberDo you boost certain freqs, or just boost it? If you just boost it, then it maybe needs to have a boost just for the wet part. Can the pedal be modded?
November 28, 2012 at 9:29 pm #118458CaptainMooseParticipantI just turn the master volume up on my GE-7, I haven’t tried to see if boosting certain freq. will do the trick, maybe I’ll try that when I get home. I kind of doubt theres any mods for this pedal, at least yet, but I could be wrong.
November 28, 2012 at 10:06 pm #118460crazymilo12ParticipantI set my EQ the way that I want my sound to be and then boost the master gain. The point of boosting BEFORE the Superego is so the pedal can “hear” it. I use a humbucker in parallel much of the time as well as being a legato player, so the pedal had a difficult time picking up my signal. There is no need to put the EQ after the Superego, since my amp never has a problem picking what I play, unless I play poorly. I was told by EHX that there were problems when the Superego’s internal sensitivity was increased. So I don’t know if modding it would be a good idea, though pretty much any pedal can be modded as long as you find the right person/are the right person and have no issue with voiding the warranty.
December 3, 2012 at 11:39 pm #118485LhamaMemberA nice solution to this was to move my buffer in front of the superego. I have a T1m buffer, which has lived at the end of my chain for a while. It tracks almost perfectly now, without changing the tone alot.
December 28, 2013 at 6:17 pm #119582arcadesonfireParticipantI was also gonna suggest buffering.
When you guys have had trouble with the auto function, were you sending the guitar straight to the Superego? Or did you have any pedals between your guitar and the Superego.
I think I’m about to get one of these, and I’m hoping that if it is after my tuner pedal (which buffers the signal), then it will work fine. I hope i hope.
December 29, 2013 at 1:18 am #119583crazymilo12ParticipantThis is the eighth pedal in my chain starting with a tuning pedal. The good news is that as I’ve gotten more accustomed to the Super Ego so that I can just play like me without having to boost the gain of my eq pedal as much, if at all. There really is a significant learning curve/ adjustment phase when you start using the Super Ego….much more than many other pedals. It’s definitely about learning a “feel” with one, maybe even more so than “dialing in the right settings.”

Sounds kinda like using the pedal is like playing a good amp. Dialing doesn’t matter as much as playing to the amp. I’m gonna grab a Superego!
January 3, 2014 at 7:18 pm #119602Folkstone57MemberHello All,
I would think that using a compressor before the SE would work as well. I’ve used a Pigtronix Philosopher’s Tone before the SE & it seems to work well. I have tried a clean OD but it didn’t seem to be any different from a COMP.
May 7, 2014 at 10:25 am #119940memorymanstefMember]hello guys,
