I have just bought a Super Pulsar, and *think* there might be an issue with it. After the pedal has been plugged in for around 40 minutes, it essentially shuts down – the LED array at the top stops sweeping and the lights stay solid (except the leftmost and rightmost lights, which are off), none of the knobs or buttons respond and no sound passes through. If it’s in bypass mode (the bypass switch still functions) the signal passes through, but when the pedal is activated there is no sound. The only way I have been able to figure out how to get the pedal going again is to unplug it.
I’m running it with the correct plug (an EHX plug), on its own (i.e., just the pedal with nothing else in the chain). I don’t see anything about this in the manual or online.
Has anyone else experienced this problem? Is there a way to resolve it or is it a bad pedal?
July 22, 2016 at 11:05 pm #121750WuTangKillaMemberYo, Just thought I’d let you know that I’ve been experiencing the EXACT same thing, gets really annoying especially when playing live. The super pulsar seems good for approx. 30 mins, then usually goes into some weird freeze mode where nothing works and it requires restarting. Oddly, I seem to notice it happening more on the faster / more light intensive settings… possibly too much current? who knows…
Let me know if you find a fix for it

I am having exactly the same issue. Anyone from EHX listening?
Best,

I’ve experienced the same problem. It also happens in bypass mode. Any news about this issue?Regards,
KlausNovember 14, 2016 at 6:03 pm #122251Flick (EHX Staff)ModeratorSorry we are just getting around to hearing about this problem with the Super Pulsar. Can you tell me what power supply you are using for the Super Pulsar? Knowing might help us narrow down the problem.
November 14, 2016 at 6:15 pm #122252goredonMemberI’m using the original EHX AC/DC power supply (which was attached):
Model:YXDC-41-1004
Input: 230V; 50Hz; 30mA
Ouput: 9,6V; 200mAMaybe the power supply is to weak?

We’ll go look at some recent production Super Pulsar’s to see if they are drawing excessive current.
November 15, 2016 at 4:32 pm #122255goredonMemberHi,
I did some tests with stronger power supplies. Same malfunction occurs.I’ve used two different power supplies:
9V; 300mA (Fame multi power supply)
and 9V; 660mA (Strymon Power Supply)Here are my seetings on the Super Pulsar on which the malfunction occures (no other settings tested):
using Mono-In/Mono-Out (nothing connected to “Tap/Clk In” jack);Volume = 1 (clock position)
RT- Phase = 12
Wave = 9 (saw wave)
Shape = max (5:30)
Depth = max
Rate = 10:30
Env Depth = 12
Env Rate = 12Wave invert = off
Tap Divide = off
Exp Mode = off (nothing selected)
xRate = once pressedPhoto with settings (hope the link works – right click and open it in a new tab should work)

November 15, 2016 at 6:45 pm #122257goredonMemberwith the 9v power supplies between 10-15 minutes it freezes. with the EHX 9,6v power supply I think it was something between 15-25 minutes. Could be that this was only a coincidence. I haven’t tried it several times.
After it has freezed, only repowering helps. And after repowering I didn’t experienced aother malfunction (warmed up?). But I’m using it only a few days now (brandnew) – no long-time experiencesEdit: in my settings the expression pedal jack is also not in use and it was in bypass mode

November 21, 2016 at 2:08 pm #122272goredonMemberOkay, I sent the faulty device back to the shop where I ordered it from and the replacment arrived (a new one) today. It has the same malfunction. Looks like all new Super Pulsars will have this malfunction.
@EHX Staff
Was it possible to reproduce this malfunction? Maybe I can film and upload it. With the posted settings it always happens after a cold start.November 23, 2016 at 2:31 pm #122274Flick (EHX Staff)ModeratorQuote:Okay, I sent the faulty device back to the shop where I ordered it from and the replacment arrived (a new one) today. With the posted settings it always happens after a cold start.We have been able to replicate the problem to some extent: when we put the Super Pulsar into a refrigerator for about 30 minutes, then power it up in a normal signal chain, it does crash after about 10-20 minutes. Restart it after this initial crash and it works normally for a long time. We don’t know why this is happening yet but the next step is to figure out what’s going on. We probably won’t have any answers until next week. We’ll keep you posted.
