it could ditch the 3rd octave up and 4th octave up sliders for “octave + detuned” and “2 octaves + detuned” sliders. Plus other cool stuff of course.
December 2, 2008 at 7:37 pm #88040TomVanDevenMemberInteresting idea. So a HOG + POG in one?
Definitely would be cool!
December 2, 2008 at 8:28 pm #88059julianModeratorpretty much
having now have played a POG I know now what you guys mean about how wonderful those + detuned sliders are.December 9, 2008 at 7:10 pm #88789Quote:it could ditch the 3rd octave up and 4th octave up sliders for “octave + detuned” and “2 octaves + detuned” sliders. Plus other cool stuff of course. There is no doubt that an extra detune of the certain octaves would be nice.
Still the 3rd and 4th octaves up are totally useful in a unique waveform configuration. It is quite amazing that as you form your sonic landscape the addition of the 3rd and 4th upper octaves really create a nice top animation.
This is really applicable when you use the upper region envelope. It slides those harmonics right in.
Those two octaves really are there for a color edge that is not really on the POG. The POG is one of my all time favorites.
Julian, please tell me what you are thinking about when you say “Plus other COOL STUFF of course”.
EH is always, as you know, really loves hearing “other cool stuff ideas.”December 9, 2008 at 8:46 pm #88815julianModeratorWell one thing that would be really cool would being able to somehow pitch shift frozen parts. Because it’s really fun to arpeggiate and sort of use the freeze to have an organ forming a bass line, but if I want to go into a heavier part from that, sometimes it isn’t ideal just to unfreeze and let the pitch shifter follow you. I’d sort of like to be able to take that frozen part to “11” with me if you sort of know what I mean.
Also maybe being able to choose the functions of the 2 secondary buttons. So that if I’m not using the expression button, I could use it to scroll through expression modes. If those switches had assignable functions it could really open up a lot of new possibilities. Perhaps one of the assignable functions could be a special option for different expression modes- turn on an LFO in addition to the expression, allow for pitch shifting of frozen parts, etc.
Other things- if there was a little flip switch above the envelope control to change between filter and volume, separate attack and decay controls, etc.
An FX loop would be cool as well
or a PWM expression mode even (if that’s even possible)
being able to choose whether a voice will be effected by the expression pedal or not, so you could pitch shift only one voice if wanted
Or even just a plain add on pedal for the HOG
4 jacks
-expression in (plug your expression pedal into)
-instrument in (for the envelope)
-instrument out
-expression out (to plug into the HOG expression in)
3 modes: step sequencer, envelope (slow and fast like on the Polyphase), and LFO
when bypassed, you use your expression pedal as normal
when not bypassed, you can choose between having a step sequencer, your pick attack generated envelope, or an LFO being your expression pedal (and your expression pedal could maybe control speed or depth)
if a sequencer’s too much, maybe just a sample and hold or step LFOWhat’d be cool is that it could be used with any other EHX pedal that uses an expression pedal

December 9, 2008 at 10:26 pm #88840julianModeratorcopperfield? the magician? because it would take magic to do such crazy things?
December 9, 2008 at 10:29 pm #88842puretubeMemberyes it does, and he can… (not “copperfold”, though…)
December 9, 2008 at 10:41 pm #88844julianModeratorOh I know what David C you mean now
the one mentioned here:

I tried the first one in England back at EH UK, when Joe Truchess was electronics engineer there. I worked for the UK accountants of EH. It contained one of the best fundamental extractors ever designed.
I remember also hearing the Space Drum being designed – very strange noises for the time, but a very clever circuit!

too bad we can’t find a video of that anywhere
I’m sure the old one was analog and monophonic though, right?December 12, 2008 at 9:52 am #88997StephengilesMemberQuote:cooltoo bad we can’t find a video of that anywhere
I’m sure the old one was analog and monophonic though, right?Yes, but it tracked very well. I’ve always thought the Adaptive Filter circuit within the Fundamental Extractor would make a great tshirt pattern. It was also used in the deluxe Octave Multiplexer.
February 4, 2009 at 11:56 pm #92680julianModeratorAnother thing that would be great would be a new preset pedal in an LBM enclosure turned sideways. 1 switch to cycle between presets, 1 switch to activate. I want a preset pedal for my HOG, but the current one is way too big and would not fit on my board.
