What kind of Strap Locks do you use?
I have been using those cheap Dunlop plastic ‘sliding disk things’ for ages but I have recently got a nice new strap that’s too thick to be fixed by those plastic disks.
I have a Les Paul and people who fit Schallers say they need to use matchsticks and glue to get them to fit. I don’t fancy doing that to my pride and joy!
What do you guy’s do?
Any recommendations?
Any horror stories?
Which brand/type is best?
i use the dunlop straplocks and i’ve had no problem with them at all.
I just take off my strap buttons, put the strap there, and then screw the strap buttons back in through the strap. That works.
Dimarzio cliploks are fantastic! The strap’s very comfortable too…
i must say that strap locks are a definite necessity when it comes to investing in your axe, weather it be worth $50 or $5000.
i replace all strap buttons with them immediately, i don’t a quire a new guitar without also getting locks for them!
i use Dunlop or Schaller, they are slightly different in the way they “clip on” but installation is rather the same. i used Dunlop mostly in the past, but have recently been favoring the Schaller ones.
on most guitars the glue and toothpick scenario is rarely needed. but when it is your only filling in the hole a bit, so removing the material later really isn’t an issue, so i don’t feel that im modding the instrument at all, plus the added protection is very much worth the use of the locks.
Grolsch washers work perfect for me. Plus you get to drink some beer to get them!
Thanks for all the great replies guys.
I might go for the Schallers, but I’m still a bit worried about messing with the holes on my LP.
Maybe I could change the screw that comes with the locks to a screw that looks like the original one I remove. Dunno.
Keep the advice coming folks!
