i have been following bill ruppert’s effectology videos, and decided i wanted to buy a v256 to do some of those cool sounds he does. i have it set up with the xlr-1/4 adapters, with the guitar plugged into them and have the settings the same as shown on his threads. for some reason though, theres static, crackling and sometimes no sound at all while messing around with it, usually with distortion on. it doesnt happen all the time, sometimes its doing what its supposed to and then other times its messing up is this to be expected since i have my guitar going into the mic inputs? if this is normal then cool. i liked tinkering with it today, got some really strange but interesting sounds.
i already tried stuff with the power supplies. the ones that came with it say “replacement power supply for boss and ibanez pedals” which i found pretty odd. i also had it connected to my generic chinese power supplies and even my one spot.

It could also be a ground loop, make sure everything is plugged in to the same AC wall socket.

If it persists contact info@ehx.comPhantom power: The problem persists whether using an SM57 with phantom power off, or an SM27 condenser with phantom power on.
Ground: All devices are plugged into the same outlet strip.
Levels: The -15dB pad on the SM27 doesn’t help. V256 XLR output is not clipping on my board. Mic bypass on the V256 sounds clear throughout the frequency range, as does full CCW of the Blend knob.
What I observe is this:
The V256 drops out or crackles when the pitch of the mic input source is heavy in the range of F2 (87Hz) or lower. The unit doesn’t seem able to track that low. My vocal range is bass. The V256 responds fine to anything I sing, as long as I don’t sing F2 or lower. When I do, it freaks out. The V256’s only knob that helps the problem is Blend. CCW from 12:00, the problem improves. CW from 12:00 the problem worsens.
For the heck of it, I miked my Kawai CN22 electric piano. The result was much worse, with pronounced distortion throughout the entire range of the keyboard, even when miked from a distance of six feet.

Quote:The pedal has no input signal, so, in theory, it should not make any sound, right?Right, assuming the unit is powered correctly and there’s no RF interference. Have you tried using a different power supply? Or plugging into a different electrical circuit? Or a different building? If none of those things get rid of the noise, then you’re likely right in thinking the problem is internal.
