i am inclined to get a tremelo pedal. which would people recommend-pulsar or wiggler??
December 28, 2009 at 1:29 pm #105760electro-melxModeratorI’ve had both and liked both.
….if you are more The Beatles than My Bloody Valentine I’d go for the Wiggler
…if you are more My Bloody Valentine than the Beatles I’d get the PulsarBoth are very very good, but the tonal qualities of the wiggler make it better suited for clean guitar and vintage type sounds, the pulsar is better for distortion and more experimental tremolo/panning type effects.
….in my opinion of course, I’m sure others use them for the exact opposite!

The Pulsar is probably more versatile, especially the Stereo Pulsar. It has both square and sawtooth wave options, with continuous control over ramping, rate, and depth. The tone is smooth and glossy.
The Wiggler has essentially 5 preset wave shapes with only continuously adustable rate and blend. The HAMM setting has a subtle hint of pitch vibrato. The LOOZ setting is very phasey. But the tubes sound so damn good – grainy, woody, wholesome.

Fender ehx forever summed it up for me, tiz the sound of those tubes mmmmmm so warm. The wigglers great for Hendrix sounds I just love it, but have no knowledge of the Pulsar but I bet its good too.

In fact I think that the Stereo Pulsar could be my favorite pedal ever (and I’m not really a Tremolo kind of guy!) It’s a gem.December 30, 2009 at 11:56 pm #105905BlueSteelParticipantboth are so cool. but i like the wiggler maybe a little more because it has vibrato.
December 10, 2010 at 8:01 pm #113006brianbeerParticipantplease excuse me if this is an obvious question, but does the pulsar have true bypass?
how do i find this out other thank asking on a forum? what do i look for under specs?
thanks-
BrianDecember 10, 2010 at 8:18 pm #113007TheGhostMachinaMemberI have the Stero Pulsar. Only recently began using it in stereo. Bought it used for $40, and I can’t say enough good things about it! If they made a deluxe version with tap tempo, it would be the only way they could make it better (IMO). And I believe it is true bypass, but I reserve the right to be wrong.

would electro-harmonix even make a pedal that wasn’t true bypass?
do you know how i could go about finding out?
Thanks, TGM.
December 10, 2010 at 8:38 pm #113016PabloMemberI’m gonna go with the Pulsar here, even though the Wiggler sounds delicious.
I’m on the hunt for an original Pulsar to give me some sweet chopped off tremolo tones.December 10, 2010 at 10:34 pm #113021TheGhostMachinaMemberThe price of the pedal usually has little to do with weather it’s true bypass or not. And I’m sure EH do make pedals that are not true bypass. I believe the POG2 and Microsynths are some of them.
True bypass has turned into a buzz word to sell more pedals. It doesn’t nessassarily make a pedal better to be true bypass. I’m sure the original Pulsar (not XO) was true bypass, so that’s what leads me to believe the Stereo Pulsar is as well.
Hope that helps!

it usually says so in the specs… EHX make both TB and Non-TB depending on the pedal.
… just because it isn’t doesn’t make it a bad bypass though. There’s lots of good reasons for pedals not to be true bypass, it’s not really something you should concern yourself with to be honest.
December 11, 2010 at 5:16 pm #113028brianbeerParticipantso even if it isnt true bypass, it wont distort my sound when it’s not on?
the only experience i have with a pedal was one of those big DigiTech floorboards. a piece of junk, but it would extremely weaken the sound coming through, even if it was not turned on. i just want to avoid that with anything else i buy.

no, is the short answer .. if that was the case nobody would use Boss pedals and clearly millions of people do (myself included) and none of their pedals are true bypass. Sometimes having a buffered bypass in your chain will actually improve your bypassed tone, especially if you run a lot of effects.
