This is the hardest one to review because I’ve had it a year but I haven’t used it much.
It’s a good trem. It also does ring mod which makes me happy.
It’s cons- clock noise if put before gain, controls are not 100% intuitive (the deepest trem is at 2’oclock instead of cranked, and also the controls are all super sensitive)
It’s yet to find its place, but I think that’s partially because I don’t use very much modulation and there’s more than I need on my board.
December 4, 2008 at 12:24 am #88352electro-melxModeratorthis is probably my favorite ehx modulation pedal, I love it and use it more than anything, I’ve owned a big box and 2 xo’s!! I just keep coming back to it.
I’ve never heard the clock noise but then I’ve always used it after dirt….before I had the HAZ it was last in my chain.
I wouldn’t call the fact that full depth is at 2 o’clock a ‘con’ exactly because the sounds you get past that point on the pot wouldn’t be possible otherwise and that rhythmic double pulse you get around 3-4 o’clock is my favorite setting of all.
the wave shaping knob is brilliant, another of my favorite settings is to use square wave at full depth then turn the shape knob until it’s mostly on and just blips off for a millisecond….it’s a really cool effect.
so yeah, it’s one of my favorite EHX pedals of all time….it only comes second to the HAZ in my book.
I don’t believe there is a better tremolo for the money (and I’ve tried a few)……pure win!!
December 4, 2008 at 12:59 am #88357julianModeratorYeah, I don’t think you can do any better for less than 100.
December 4, 2008 at 1:45 am #88372CHOUTParticipantI love mine too, I’ve recorded a lot with it, but it does seem to have a volume ‘ceiling’ when I use it live.
December 4, 2008 at 6:10 am #88383John JMemberIt’s a definite piece of studio magic in my eyes, especially for vocal panning, but I like it best on bass. Like this: Tube Zipper -> Phase 90 -> Stereo Pulsar -> DD-6. That’s my most common bass set up and it absolutely roars, now if only I had technique to match…
December 4, 2008 at 12:00 pm #88389Kevin DemuthMemberdoes the Stereo Pulsar cause any change in volume? (drop or boost.)

December 4, 2008 at 2:00 pm #88399Small StoneMemberFunny, I just got my Stereo Pulsar yesterday, and tried it last night at the rehearsal space!
It’s very different from the Dano Tuna Melt (which I was using until recently; good cheap trem, but the knobs were too small and the switch annoying…). The rate knob is SUPER sensitive (so much that I might have to mark my sweet spot with masking tape and a Sharpie…), and I haven’t had time to experiment with the wave shaping. No volume problems to my ears (and it was tested in a live band setting).
I already love it!

glad you like it…..I think it’s underated, the only thing I wish it had was a switch to turn the panning on and off.
yeah the rate seems sensitive because it has such a massive range (as all the controls do) great fun.

that clears that up then! 😆
i think i may have to pick one of these up soon…

yeah, you could do with another tremolo.
December 4, 2008 at 2:39 pm #88406julianModeratorit doesn’t seem to kill your volume like the Dano Tuna Melt.
December 4, 2008 at 3:04 pm #88408Fender&EHX4everModeratorI’ve never tried the Stereo Pulsar, but I have the older one in the Big Muff sized enclosure, and I’m always blown away at how great it sounds. It’s entirely different from The Wiggler in both tone and control. Only PureTube could design two tremelo pedals with such different characters and personalities :thumb:
I currently use a BOSS PN-2 and a Digitech XP-200 Modulator for my panning needs, so I haven’t gotten around to getting a Stereo Pulsar. My only complaint with the Stereo Pulsar is that it doesn’t have stereo inputs. Imagine how that would sound hooked up to the Stereo Memory Man with Hazarai
December 4, 2008 at 3:14 pm #88411MINGMemberI really like mine. Haven’t used it much lately. I mainly use it for some Stones and CCR. The Pulsar can cover so much ground. I’ve recommended it a few times.
OT– I’ve been getting lessons off of this 80 year old country dude, think Hank Sr, Hoagy Carmichael. I’m not a pop country fan, but I respect old bluegrass and the like. After I come home from my lessons, I’ve been using my guitar–>Worm–>Champ 600. I have the Worm set to a very light trem. IMO, sounds really cool.
December 4, 2008 at 3:40 pm #88412julianModeratorCool Ming.
I’ve got a friend who like sto play a lot of western swing guitar style.
It certainly can do that CCR type sound though.I think I’m going to make my nephew a small board to go along with the guitar I’m getting him, and I might put it on it for him to play with.
