I have just got the Stereo Memory Man with Hazarai & was wondering if it is possible to Loop Vocals as well as guitar? (like KT Tunstall does with the Headrush).
If so what else would I need? I currently just run my pedals in front of my amp,
what I’m unsure of is how to run a mic & guitar into my pedals at once, I have the SMMH at the end of my chain,
Would I need some sort of signal splitter or mixer, I’m not even sure if you can run a mic through a guitar amp or not?
I’m a bit of a novice with all this but thought it would be cool to build up a loop of guitar, vocals, handclaps etc. & just wanted to know if it was possible or just pie in the sky!
I’d imagine using a small mixer would be the easiest (with the hazarai in the mixers fx loop) your mic in one input and your guitar signal into another input, you could do it all through a guitar amp but the vocals wouldn’t sound too hot…you’d really need to run though a PA to get the best sound.
there might be other ways of doing it too, (because the Hazarai is stereo with 2 inputs) best thing would be to just try it out and see what happens…sounds like fun anyway.
I use Channel one for guitar and channel two for vocals. I do this with all of my loopers. (2 x Hazarai, DD-20, DL4, 2880) I just take an XLR>1/4″ adapter and slap it on the end of my Mic cable. Works great.
So is it possible then to run a microphone with a 1/4 (guitar type) jack into the right input on the SMMH & a guitar into the left input at the same time? would that work?
Could you do this with the SMMH still in the chain with just mono out?
I don’t really mind how crude the set up is or really about the quality of the vocals (within reason) it is only for playing about with at home for now,
I don’t have any experience with Mixers & wouldn’t know where to start (I’m afraid to admit that there is a great sound guy who sets up the mixer & mics where my band practices, I have enough trouble just setting up my amp & pedal boards!!)
So if it’s something I could try out & only need to buy a cheap microphone & a mic cable with a 1/4 jack that would be great!
To be honest I don’t really want to spend too much more cash at the moment as I’ve had a bit of a splurge recently & gone from no Electric Guitar & no pedals to 2 Electrics & 2 full pedal boards in the last 6 months or so (including the SMMH & a Flanger Hoax just in the last week!!)
Please pardon my lack of knowledge (I’m still learning) & again any advice is appreciated

I think you need to use both outputs if you were using both inputs, I’m pretty sure whatever you send into one input will come out of the other (and not combine them into a single output) so you would need to either send the outputs to different inputs on your amp (if it has more than one) send each output to a different amp, or find a way of mixing the signals back together (mini mixer, ‘Y’ lead/box or something like that)

Wrong! Use the “mono” out and you’ll have signal from both sources in, well, glorious mono, of course!! I usually have a guitar into the L and a keyboard into the R input, going out to my Fender Champ 600. Weird things happen on that side of the pedal: when the effect is bypassed, the R input is muted.

lol, I stand corrected!!
….but like you say ‘the right input is muted when you bypass it’ so that might make things tricky depending on how you intend to use it.
So I tested this out, with a truly, truly horrible little plastic microphone that has a guitar jack (which I got for the princely sum of £1.80p)
I left my SMMH where it normally is on my pedalboard 2nd to last in the chain with my guitar signal going into the left input & the left Output going to my LPB-1 (& then amp).
I plugged the Microphone into the SMMH’s right input & voila! It worked, pretty well actually considering what a horrible little microphone it is & that the vocals were going through my guitar amp.
The vocals were a touch quiet, but not too bad (just sang a little louder to compensate) I turned the mic off when not using it so that I doesn’t pick up any additional ambient sound while the guitar is played,
Anyway had fun messing about with it building up loops (just a shame I’m not a better singer!! Or guitarist for that matter!!!)
Had always wanted to try this out (ever since I saw KT Tunstall do it live) & had looked at loopers a few times over the last couple of years but never wanted to part with the cash (especially when I was told that as most loopers only had a single input I’d need mixers, PA’s & allsorts to do vocals), but when I saw a bargain priced SMMH I thought I’d treat myself.

Anyway, it works well enough to keep me happy.
My music has relied on looping & layering; guitars and vocals for the past 8 years. The SMMw/H has shelved my DD-20 (which is also a pretty great looper for vocals/guitar), and knocked out just about every looper I’ve owned. It really is simply a GENIUS device. I own two now, and wouldn’t hesitate picking up a third, if I found it cheap.
