Hey I just bought a Stereo Memory Man with Hazarai… and immediately I am noticing a marked shift in guitar tone when it’s engaged. I know others have sensed this… just wondering if there’s something to do to fix it. Interior trim pot perhaps?
Here are the symptoms
First of all, with the blend knob fully counter-clockwise, passing no effect, I find it’s adding high frequencies. With some overdrive pedal combinations, it’s not that pronounced, but in sequence after my Big Muff, it’s really apparent and doesn’t sound nearly as good as the straight Big Muff with no SMMH.
Then, as the blend is increased clockwise, the pedal is causing a significant reduction of low and mid frequencies. By the time the blend is cranked up to 12:00, the guitar sounds thinner, weaker and quieter. Shouldn’t the volume of the direct/dry signal stay full-power until you cross over the 12:00 mark where there’s a need to make the repeats louder than the original signal? In this case, with the blend up, it’s really failing the Big Muff test… the added highs and reduction of lows and low mids is making the Muff sound synthetic and wimpy.
I’ve tried it with Voodoo Labs Pedal Power, and it’s own 9v power supply, in almost every hazarai setting… same result.
Overall this is such a powerful pedal with cool effects and an amazing palette of tricks, but I don’t think I can live with it if there isn’t a correction for this behavior. Please tell me there is!
Thanks for any insights, and happy holidays to all!
