I’m playing with a drummer and I’ve tried setting up my loops on rhythm guitar, then playing lead melody over it, but I cannot seem to get the loops to be in time. This is on two levels: 1) once I lay down the loop, the loop usually lags behind, and 2) If I set a loop to his tempo (or even drum machine) I am always late. I’ve even tried starting the loop on beat 4 but even that is too late. Is there any type of tap tempo I can set up? In loop mode that doesn’t seem possible… Any tips from experienced loopers?

I realize that sounds like trolling but really it’s the only way i’ve ever been able to sync things.

Is it possible that my SMM pedal is not working right since there’s a slight lag when you push the switch and the the loop light comes on?
The videos make it look so effortless, but I seem to be milliseconds off, which compounded over many measures makes it not worthwhile. I know some dedicated loopers have quantizing, so I might need to look that direction. Even the EHX 2880 doesn’t look set up for live use. Oh well – I’d prefer to stay EHX but maybe not on this type of product.

April 16, 2012 at 5:43 pm #117353MattInVegasMemberI just graduated to a 2880, but I’m keeping my Boss RC-120 XL specifically for uses like you just described. They are discontinued, although still in stores (and cheap on ebay), but I found it real easy to lay down a good verse-chorus loop with the Boss. I read complaints about the new RC-30’s looping, and read similar complaints that looping is not a strong feature on SMMWH. The 2880 is embedded in my set-up, tho, and the RC-20 is on-the-go ready, so its the best of both worlds.
I think I’m just on a learning curve with the 2880, but I have a feeling that EHX is about to put out two loopers to replace the 2880 — one smaller and self contained and one with all the works. There is a market niche to fill, so I don’t see why they wouldn’t.
