I received the Black Finger yesterday and noticed an enormous volume drop between the normal and squash positions. Everything else appears to perform as advertised but switching to lamp/sqsh results in near zero volume. Is this typical to have that much difference (post & pre-gain settings being equal) in output between the normal and squash modes?
Also, I did have it in “Lamp” as instructed. In Normal mode I adjust the Pre and Post gain so that the volume was close to the same with the pedal on or off. Once in Squash I could adjust the gain and get some volume out of it. I just want to know if this is part of the normal operation or do I have a defective pedal?
If it helps I have a PRS with a single P90 running through a VOX AC30. No other pedals were in the chain at the time.
Thanks.
Hi Ravin
Yes that is how the beast behaves. In squash you have to up both pre and post volumes to your desired level.
In the normal mode the volumes are much louder. I trust everything else is working ok?? I do love this pedal, so many different tonalities involved and obtainable.
Great. Thanks. In fact I was playing around with this thing last night and did exactly that and it works great. I’m able to get so much more out of the Vox Amp now. This pedal is like Traction Control on a Formula One car. It just makes it easier to tame all that horsepower.
Yep, my fav setting on the Black Finger is SQSH with the Compression almost maxxed (but not entirely to preserve some attack), the Pre-Gain at about 3:00, and the Post-Gain set to whatever volume level I need at the moment.
