I prefer the RP Valve models mostly. The newer non-valve units are absolutely terrible in my opinion.
Some say since I use tube amps that the valve is not needed…I strongly disagree 100%.
If I had the $$$…there would be an Eventide 3000 sitting here :)

Love my Mig 60 amp can’t say enough good things about it.
    #197 dated 1992.
I have it running thru my Sound City 4X12 with 30 watt Eminence square magnet speakers sounds damn good.Sounds great thru my Jackson 4X12 with 50 watt Eminence redline speakers too.
I really love the Mig 60 it does everything well.

Hello I was wondering if anyone has ever seen a sovtek 4×12 straight cab. I found one in a pawn that looks like it could be real but I can’t find any pictures of one on th internet. Always a slant cab. Thanks

Haven’t seen one in person but they did exist. They’re mentioned in the 1998 catalog.

    A fan here! ;)

I got my Sovtek MIG50 only a few months ago, but I like it! I guess it’s one of the first series, set up as a modded Super Bass clone with the shared cathode on V1 (802R/220uF) and 100nF PI coupling caps. I measured 511V DC on the output tubes!

    I already did the following:
    * added a simple prePI master volume
    * rewired the power amp (cut away more than 1m (3′) of wire and used 18AWG)
    * changed all open jacks to cliffs
    * replaced all pots with Alpha’s (no drilling needed!)
    * removed the two 1nF bright caps
    * internally jumpered the inputs

Unfortunately I intruduced a bit of hum with the master volume, which I hope to solve by using shielded wire, which will cost me some top highs …

I was wondering if anyone has the Sovtek catalogues somewhere (for download?) as I guess this won’t be my last Sovtek amp!

Fixed that pretty fast after reporting it: I used the ground from the pilot light which added the hum. Switching the ground to that of the middle pot resolved all humming issues!

sovtekian, i haven’t read the whole thread so it may already be mentioned. my mig-50 say model 001 on the face, so im assuming that your amps 005 is the model number and the other number would be the year of build.
enjoy your mig….their a tough rig!!!

I’ve ordered an upgrade output transformer at IGPW, hoping to fix the “nasal” sound of my Sovtek MIG50.

I also made a schematic for it, since the old one was unreadible and has some different values on it than mine. Unfortunately, my serial number sticker is also unreadible, so I don’t know which version I have.

    Link to the schematic

After tracing my head (pun intended) I changed the 47nF in the tonestack (blue) to a more Marhally 22nF (green) to get loads of extra lows and mids!

My MIG50 is now almost at “pexi spec” for only a few bucks and some hours of spare time ;)

what up! here’s me and my Mig 100B its been to hell and back and keeps going love it! i want to buy a few more, i play metal but like older overdriven bass tones like ol’geezer from black sabbath when he played thru laney amps, i use marshall 4×12 cabs and a genz benz 2×15 to get the sound i want.

At this show we shared cabs with our friends band it was easier just to bring our heads and guitars on the road.

Hey all. New user here. Surprisingly. I got a NYC Big Muff, a couple Black Russians, Pog2, Soul Food and who knows what else. I shoulda joined up here a long time ago…

But anyway, MIG 60s. Awesome. Love mine. Had it for around 6 or 7 years I think. Been my main amp for my main band the whole time. I’ve only seen one other at a gig here in town (Spokane WA) and only last week did I see one (again, in town) for sale. Had to jump on it. It advertised as a 1993. And it was SO clean, you would swear you shot back in time to 94. Got it home. Plugged it in right next to my old one. Cosmetically, the only difference is, the newer ones power switches are a darker orange. Each into a (home made) straight 412 cab loaded with Rocket 50s. Settings matched. The ‘new’ one is louder. Notably. Mmm. Tube choice? So I pull the backs off. Well, sure, the power tubes are different brands, but that’s not what catches my eye. Behind the first two pre tubes, there is what looks kind of like (but they’re not) two more tube covers. But I don’t believe they’re tubes. I doubt they are, at least. But I don’t KNOW, so that begs the first question: What the hell ARE those things? (I’ll try get pics hosted and posted)
A couple interesting point to note- the little plate inside the ‘new’ one says ‘246 1993’. The plate in my old one says ‘240 1993’. Hell, does that make them practically siblings?
Also. The new one came with a schematic. Drawn (apparently) by Ed P with the New Sensor Corp., 133 5th Ave NY, NY on Nov 17th, 1993.

Nov 17th is the 321st day (or so) of this year (not looking up 1993 right now). If you minus the weekends, that MIGHT get you 246. So there’s that, if we’re still trying to crack that code.

Now, I’m not an amp tech, and I don’t ‘speak’ electronics. Can barely ‘read’ electronics, but I can’t quite tell if these things are mentioned in the schematic or not unless I decide to pull the chassis out and trace it all out (not doing that today for sure). But I figured I’d look around online to see if this was an after market mod (if so, what kind?) or just a model variant or what have you.

    Anyone got any insight?

    Sean

    **EDIT**
I found this pic http://www.kramerforum.com/george/amps/sovtek_mig60_3.JPG which HAS the same ‘additional’ tube cap looking things that I saw on my new head that are NOT on my original head

Those are the preamp filter capacitors C3 and C5 and should be present on all MIG60’s. Can you please post some pictures of your amps?

Yeah. I’ll pop them out of their shells tomorrow and shoot some pics.
In the meantime, here’s a face shot of them.

The one I had before is the bottom one, with the lighter orange switches (withOUT the C3/C5 there). The new one (WITH the capacitors) has the darker switches. I notice with all the pic I see online with the capacitors there have the darker switches.

    ALSO-
I got another set of fat bottle 6CA7s (like the ones that came in the ‘new’ amp) and the difference in level between the heads is negligible now. There IS still a mildly noticeable difference in presence or ‘clarity’, but that falls in the realm of ‘no two units are completely alike’.

i’m gonna try to get some pics up
