+1 on the Sovtek users… i have a Mig-50 and i can say its one of the most interesting amps i have used.. very loud for its wattage, loads of headroom to let your pedalboard shine! i currently use both channels on my amp (one for clean & one extremely loud and dirty for that extra umph…)
i d love to get a matching cab but i cant find any in Greece or somewhere near-by in Europe for that matter… so if anyone has any info on that please let me know!
in other news, sovtek amps really seem to like sovtek muffs
November 9, 2010 at 9:00 pm #112487ScienceFrictionMemberThere is a guy from Russia who has been selling Sovtek amps on ebay recently, maybe you could ask him about sovtek cabs?
I’m trying to find out more about my Mig 30, it doesn’t look another I’ve seen, and I’m sure it’s different from other Mig 50s too. Yeah, the myths and mystery behind these amps are cool, but it can be stressful when you’re trying to figure what you’ve got on your hands especially if it needs work. Still, I love the sound of it and don’t see the need to replace it with a Bassman anytime soon.
November 15, 2010 at 10:43 am #112586UnnamedMemberI bought two heads from that guy (a Mig 100U and a Mig 50) and in the last three or four years I have never seen a cab on sale from him.
November 16, 2010 at 12:28 am #112601ScienceFrictionMemberI’m going to assume they are harder to find in Europe than America, but if you were really hard for one you could get one from the states. I’ve seen a few 4x12s come up in the past four months or so, and one 2×12. I wouldn’t mind unloading my 4×12 either, but that’s another story.
I wish I knew more, but knowing anything about Sovtek amps is lucky enough. Too bad there isn’t more concrete, comprehensive info about them.
November 16, 2010 at 7:27 am #112608UnnamedMemberRight now in Europe there is a online shop in Spain that sells the Mig 50 and the Blues Midget for bass (plus transformers and choke for Mig 100 and some other parts).
Some people both from Spain and France are selling some Mig 100H with or without 4×12″ cab and one guy in Italy has been selling a 4×10″ cab for a while.
I was lucky enough to succeed in getting a 4×10″ cab some years ago.
Some time after I lost an auction for the same cab on ebay, the person who won it put sold me the cab.
It costed me some more money but it was worth.November 16, 2010 at 2:07 pm #112611blixkitParticipantI have the same head and I have the same questions – all the others I see have the red script on the faceplate, but mine looks like yours…
November 16, 2010 at 2:09 pm #112612blixkitParticipantQuote:I would like to start a topic about Sovtek Mig amps
Im wondering what the first year of production?
The reason why is I have an odd looking Mig 60. The tag on the chassis reads “005 1992” Does anyone have any
ideas here? 5th one produced in ’92? It also has block lettering on the faceplate instead of the russian word in red script.
Everything else is the same as any other Mig 60 except for the faceplate. It has not been modified by anyone so its an original
factory job. (pic is inverted)Ideas??
I also have this odd looking Mig 60 and have similar questions…
November 23, 2010 at 9:07 am #112710Stoney LonesomeMemberbumping this for personal reasons… what do you guys think about a couple of sovteks together… i alrady have a Mig50 and i was thinking of adding a Mig30 to my arsenal and bi-amp… one for cleans & headroom and the other(mig30) as a cool overdriven-nasty-sludgy-distorted sound… i was thinking of using my LS-2 to select between amps and a boss volume pedal to control the gain on the mig30
let me know what you guys think!! all opinions welcome… help out a fellow addict
February 4, 2011 at 4:37 pm #114126alvisParticipantI’ve always liked these amps. I got my 1st one in ’99 for 175 usd.
While they do have some durability issues, there’s been nothing I couldn’t fix out on the road so far.I like the straight Mig 50s the best. I’ve added a post-phase inverter master volume to two of minehttp://img.photobucket.com/albums/v36/ayhcult/migrig.jpg

April 18, 2011 at 9:49 pm #115044syncopaMemberHello all… I’ve been a MiG player for quite some time now. I’ve got a 100h that I push a Peavey 4X12 loaded with Sheffield 70’s, it sounds incredible. Great story about the amp. I bought it from Musician’s Friend WAY back in the mid to late 90’s, for $399.00. I played it for 2 hours and the whole thing fried, output tubes, transformer, many of the caps… Bad seen! I call MF and tell them it fried after 2hrs playing, the ask me to send it back. Several days later I get a call from Electro-Harmonix, one of their repair techs, and he wants to know the situation in which the amp blew. I explain the circumstances were a couple of hours normal play time, not too loud, etc. He asks me EXACTLY when and where did I get this head. I tell the man I got it about 2 weeks ago from MF. He went on to explain that it was actually kind of old, and must have been sitting in their warehouse for quite a while. He ended up sending me info on Ed Pennpacker, the designer. Once repaired, it has been rock solid ever since. The reason I’m posting though is… I just scored a MiG 50 head with a supposedly rare, orange faceplate, and was wondering if anyone has any info on it? Thanks in advance!
August 11, 2011 at 9:13 pm #115797rollurowntoneMemberi just got a mig 50H midget..
i USED to have the (non MV) mig 50 and i was sorry i sold it ..my last amp (traynor yba-1a) got stolen, and since i’m sittin on a 90’s EHX (basket weave cane grill) russian pine 4×10 cab – i decided to replace the traynor w/ the Midget 50H head.
i had some Q’s, i didn’t want to hi jack the thread was hoping to breath some new life into it
First- i noticed some mig 50H heads say MIDGET on them and others don’t, instead they have smaller writing on the left that says “all tube amp”. wondering what that might indicate? earlier later or anything different internally etc..
2nd: the voltage selector in the back for playing Europe style or USA electric power grid. the previous owner had been running it @ 100 volts instead of 120 volts … should that affect the tone of the amp, one way or another (hotter or colder) any effect on the tubes etc..??
..also was thinking of trying NOS 5881 TungSols BUT.. i think i read somewhere that these amps produce a lot of voltage to the plates and the tubes might not hold up ? any thoughts or experiences w/tubes in general (power & preamp)?? should i just go w/ the sturdier 6l6GC instead ?? and V1 vs V2 & V3
obviously these are great amps with a lot of power and cover a lot of ground.. theres not all that much info out there about em..
i want to do it justice and put the right tubes in it and speaker combination.ANY & ALL opinions / suggestions welcome thanks

The tube midget is actually smaller than the MiG 50 in size, and has the master volume2nd: the voltage selector in the back for playing Europe style or USA electric power grid. the previous owner had been running it @ 100 volts instead of 120 volts … should that affect the tone of the amp, one way or another (hotter or colder) any effect on the tubes etc..??
Eddie Van Halen supposedly ran his plexi thru a variac at 90 volts to achieve his brown sound...also was thinking of trying NOS 5881 TungSols BUT.. i think i read somewhere that these amps produce a lot of voltage to the plates and the tubes might not hold up ? any thoughts or experiences w/tubes in general (power & preamp)?? should i just go w/ the sturdier 6l6GC instead ?? and V1 vs V2 & V3
make sure you check the voltages, I’ve seen as high as 480 volt and heard of a lot higher. The tubes in these things I’ve heard were for servo actuators and not actually audio tubes, and supposedly can handle higher power figures, could be myth thoughobviously these are great amps with a lot of power and cover a lot of ground.. theres not all that much info out there about em..

Gotta luv these things, best of luck with yours!ANY & ALL opinions / suggestions welcome thanks
August 13, 2011 at 5:36 am #115769rollurowntoneMemberthanks for the response ..
i’m jus gonna go with the RI Tung Sol 6l6GC ‘s they can hadle the volts and they hace the same flavor as the TS 5881’s
btw i realize the reg mig 50 is bigger, (used to have one) lol
but i’m speaking of the 50H midgets ONLY
some say midget on them and some don’t
check it out
guess some are politically correct,
it’s a mysterythanks for the Tip RE the variac & brown sound, & voltage settings
cheers
August 14, 2011 at 8:09 pm #115777ravenscryerMemberI just bought a Mig 100 and am super excited to use it with my 61 reissue SG. It’s missing its faceplate. Any chance I might be able to find one or should I give up before I try to hard?
