The vintage Soul Preacher requires a 9v positive tip power supply. I think I’ve tried both 300ma and 500ma, and both worked fine.

I don’t recall looking to see if they were true-bypass by default, but I can’t imagine it would be difficult to mod it.

It’s not my favorite EHX compressor, by a a long shot, but it’s good for some specific applications, like using it in front of fuzz or distortion for leads. It also does a fine job of being a bit of a treble booster.

If you’re looking for a great overall compressor, I would recommend the BlackFinger or WhiteFinger compressors first.

I have the nano soul preacher. I love it for clean sounds, finger picking, flat picking, etc. It sounds really good doing some wilco type stuff with chords and little country twang fills in between. Most of the time I run both knobs at noon and keep the attack time on fast. You can boost the volume up if you want to send the amp into a little overdrive, very sweet sounding.

This sounds really good on my acoustic too. I do alot of high capo stuff on the 5th-7th fret and play open chords kind of like a fake mandolin, and the sustain and “sweetened” tone sounds great for that kind of stuff.

It does color the tone a little bit I would say it is brighter than any regular clean boost like the lpb1.

This pedal is noisy, and I was worried about it, but I was watching eric johnson go through his rig and when he hits his compressor (i think it’s an older mxr dynacomp) I heard the same kind of noise that I get with the soul preacher. I did adjust the trim on the inside and it seems to help the noise though. Just don’t stop playing! or you could run a gate or something before it. The noise does stop if you turn down your guitar, so it isn’t really the pedal making noise on it’s own.

I’d say use SP > LPB > amp otherwise the SP will pretty much cancel out the effect of the LPB
