    Hey,

I just received my Soul Food. Sounds great! I’ve not tried the provided transformer but it works fine with a Visual Sound Onespot.

The problem is that it won’t work with a battery. I have tried two, the first one may have been flat but the second one was known good, tried in a different pedal. There is a whistling sound through the amp, the LED will not light up. When turned off, sound passes through because the setting is on true bypass.

    Should I return it?

I have the 240V version. The batteries I am using are standard Duracell Alkaline MN1604’s, dated March 2016.

    Thanks!

Also, the enclosure won’t quite close all the way with a battery inside…

I want my soul food to be a portable pedal. The battery issue bothers me a lot.
The main problem is that I bought the pedal on tour in USA…
It seems like I am not the only one facing this problem. Is there any common solution that i can check it on my own?

I know this is an old post but I had the same issue and finally got round to trying to fix it.

It seems the power socket has a switch that disconnects the battery when power is plugged in but SHOULD reconnect the battery if power is not plugged in.
It then turns on the battery only when the INPUT jack is plugeed in.

On mine, the power socket switch is NOT reconnecting the battery. If I jump a wire from bettery +ve to where it should go, then it will work.
So have ordered a new socket (search for 2.1mm pcb mount guitar pedal supply socket on ebay).

Should be an easy fix as its just 3 legs

    Just for extra clarity.
The power socket connects the batery +ve ehwn poer is unplugged. Disconnects +ve when plugged in so you dont “charge” the normal battery.
Plgging in the input jack connects the battery -ve so it doesnt drain your bettery when not in use.
