Big Muff Deluxe
Essentially, the ultimate Muff. Imagine having every Muff, and every combination thereof, in one pedal. With presets. This box would be digitally controlled analog, for maximum versatility. In addition to the traditional Muffs, there’s a Metal Muff gain stage following the typical preamp. Needless to say, SMMH size box.
Knobs, from left to right:
-Sustain (As on a typical Muff)
-Distortion (As on a Metal Muff)
-Tone (As on a typical Muff)
-Volts (Controls the volts going into the gain stages. Maximum 18, minimum 1)
-Volume (Output)
-Preset (As on a POG2)
Under the knobs are two buttons.
-Mode: USA/Russian/Triangle (Hopefully self-explanatory. )
-Mod: Normal/Tone BP/Wicker/Tone & Wicker
And of course, a BP switch and a Preset switch. Imagine this pedals capabilities. Russian Muff with Tone Wicker? Check. Dying Battery Triangle Muff? Check. USA Muff cascaded into a Metal Muff? Check.
Macrosynth
This pedal is in a HOG size enclosure, and has full MIDI control over all parameters. This is another digitally controlled analog deal.
Faders, from left to right:
-Input Gain
-Two Octaves down
-One Octave down
-Dry
-One Octave up
-Two Octaves up
-Amp Attack Time
-Amp Decay Time
-Envelope Trigger
-Filter Start
-Filter Stop
-Filter Sweep Speed
-Filter Q
-Portamento
-Ring Mod Mix
-Ring Mod Frequency
Switches for Amp Envelope looping and Filter Envelope looping. As on the HOG, there’s an expression pedal input with the following modes:
Filter Manual
Filter Sweep Speed
Ring Mod Freq
Input Gain
Portamento
Amp Envelope Looping (Toe down, no looping. As you sweep through, the amount of looping increases.)
Three foot switches: Octave Bypass, Envelope Bypass, and Ring Mod Bypass.
Resonator
This is a pretty simple dealie. XO size enclosure. More or less, the filter matrix/slapback modes from the Polychorus.
Knobs:
-Delay Time
-Feedback
-Mix
And a switch between slapback and filter. There’s an exp in for Delay time.
FreqOut
Frequency analyzer plus envelope follower plus feedback looper? Yes please! SMMH size enclosure, presets.
-Mix (Duh)
-Frequency (Duh)
-Sweep (Envelope control over freq)
-Speed (Speed of the envelope sweep)
-Feedback (Output of the pedal goes back to the input.)
-Presets (As on POG2)
Two switches:
Filter (As on the Frequency Analyzer)
Exp (Switch between freq, sweep, and Feedback)
nobody would ever want the resonator. XOing the whole polychorus would rawk.
deluxe big muff sounds cool but presets would probably make the sound quality suffer and you don’t need presets with a distortion pedal. needs a compressor in it if it’s gonna be deluxe
macrosynth? all that on an analogue design? no way.
deluxe filter matrix sounds cool. that pedal really needs a proper XO treatment
well… you can’t really fit all this stuff from Macro synth on anything smaller than… let’s say… HOAX-sized box. BUT it sounds absolutely awesome I’d probably buy this and since i’m not a fan of synthesizers (yet… no experience, but the demos doesn’t convince me) you can count that as a succes
you know there is a Deluxe Big Muff, right?
yours DBM… dunno. I probably wouldn’t buy it. as said – you dont need presets on a distortion…I own the jekyll and hyde by Visual sound and I don’t even need to bend and set the knobs… ever. when you find some sound, it’s THAT SOUND. if I’d want another sound, I’d buy a Big Muff (oops, I did  can’t wait).
I think that the magic of muffs is that they are
1)pretty much simple
2)small
3)flexible
so I don’t know… you don’t need monster like that
those other two things… nothing for me i shall say
Well, the dealie with the Big Muff Deluxe (I’m aware of the DBM) is that there are so many options avaliable with the pedal that a) it can replace most of the dirt boxes on your board and b) you can get lots of different sounds without having to twist knobs on stage. For instance, here are some sounds avaliable from the BMD that aren’t exactly easy to switch between:
-A typical dimed tone USA Muff Sound
-A 60s Germanium-ish fuzz
-A Metal distortion
-A bluesy overdrive
-A Classic Rock distortion tone
Each of those would require different knob positions and different switch selections. Presets aren’t essential, CERTAINLY don’t change the tone (it’s just another step between the knobs and pots. The sound remains completely analog) but remain quite useful.
As to the Macrosynth, I did mention a HOG sized box…
The Resonator would be a great pedal: resonation is a really cool, underused effect. Now that the Holiest Grail is gone, there aren’t any EH pedals with the capability.
The FreqOut, of course, would find a home amongst the Frequency Analyzer’s legion of fans.
As to the Macrosynth, I did mention a HOG sized box…
oh, sorry, my bad!
about the DBM – i get it, yeah… but you know – when it comes to distortion, i’m more of a guy that likes combinations of pedals and work wih the volume pot. I think, that combinations are far more creative and you can find some interesting sounds with it i’m not a fan of those “super-duper pumped-up stompboxes for your whole life”. when it has a good sound, it’s good… and when you can figure out how to use your pedals together to get a pile of good sounds – well, that’s some good working with your pedalboard
about the fully analog signal path – yeah, i know, no problem
not a bad idea, i’m sure it would fit alot of people… just not my deal
and i totally don’t mind bending down and re-setting my pedals
It’s cool. I’m just sayin, for those of us who’d rather shell out $200 and be done with it than buy 3 Big Muffs, install tone bypass, wicker, and voltage limiter mods, and still not be done, it’d be nice.
