Hi, I have some suggestions on how to improve the SMMH and really make it an (even more) killer product.
I’m an effects designer/builder as well as a guitarist. I have the SMMH on my board as well as the Deluxe Memory Boy with Tap Tempo. Both are great products and are a big part of my sound.
After seeing what you’ve done with the DMB, I see some features that could be added to the SMMH to really make it a killer, killer product, even better than it is now.
First, I think it needs subdivisions linked to the tap tempo like the DMB. I really think that would go along way to increasing the musical useability of the machine. Personally, I don’t have a use for tap tempo without subdivisions because most settings I use, are faster than the quarter note.
Second, I chose it for my Board for the Presets, and I honestly think there should be some method of cycling through presents without bending over. I would suggest added an external switch (or dual switch) to run through or toggle up/down through the presets.
I think you could even go as far as to include a expression pedal input similar to the DMB. This isn’t as important as my first two suggestions in my mind.
Other than that, perhaps some voicing options would be a cool improvment, say an “analog” mode, a “Tape delay” mode, etc.
Thanks,
AZiltz

July 8, 2011 at 1:14 am #115863julianModerator1. Have a HOG/16SD/2880 type foot controller that can cycle presets as well as control looping functions.
2. speed & shape controls for modulation
3. More time for the 1 sec + reverse
4. Instead of having a gazillion modes, have one mode with hidden controls:Normal controls:
Blend
Smear (the echo’s setting for decay that gives a reverb quality)
Tone
Feedback
Delay timehidden controls:
Modulation depth
Modulation rate
discreet repeats 1-30 (multi-tap setting on the SMMH)
decay (controls the decay of the discreet repeats multi-tap setting on the SMMH)
multi-tap delay timethen throw in a way to switch it into reverse mode but keep all the same controls.
One problem with the different modes on the SMMH is that I always wanted to blend them. Why couldn’t I have the reverbery decay from the echo mode one the multi-tap mode or the reverse mode? Why couldn’t I have feedback on the multi-tap mode?
Also it would be cool to have it be able to do Binson Echorec type multi-tap stuff.

August 9, 2011 at 9:59 pm #101925MelodyshineMemberIn my opinion the SMMH is too expensive. The price would have been ok if there had been
– an analog mode that makes it possible to change the pitch of the echoes when the delay time is changed + analog feedback (memory boy, boss space echo,..) (very important, would be great!)
– a trails switch (very important, would be great!)
– an input for expression pedal that lets you change the delay time (pitch effect) and the modulation (very important, would be great!)– a + reverse switch , so we get 3/1/0.3 Sec Echo +Rev. AND Multitap + Rev. ((moreover 6 seconds and not 3 seconds!!)
– no annoying sounds when presets are changed (especially when I switch to the 3 sec multitap mode)– a undo function on loops + a trails switch (??) for loops, for example: I have played the last tone of the loop and want the first tone of the loop to follow immediately. So I should stop recording the loop now. But then the echoes of the last tone don’t fade out naturally. (actually that means, the looper should be in front of the SMMH-effect)
– a function that makes the loops fade out
– a bpm functionBy the way there are many other threads that would appreciate a SMMH 2.

but – a great product,,,November 8, 2011 at 9:45 am #116290WatsonWoodMemberQuote:the only reason I didnt get a smmwh – was because of the numpty looping .,., whats up with the weird switching.,.,
but – a great product,,,Yes, the loop switch takes a while to get used too, especially for me since I have a set habit of beating out time with my foot. No problem to start the loop recording function but somewhat tricky at first when I have to think off the beat to finish the loop by raising my foot instead of stomping down. Ingrained habits die hard however I have now twigged a system which works for me. When the time comes to end the loop recording I breathe in and relax a few milliseconds before releasing the foot switch. Since using this method I have had no more trouble syncing the start and finish of the loops. A great help when playing loud and live.

This. Please, please, please. I’m about to give up this product because its too unwieldy for live work — big PITA to be constantly bending over, and makes us look stupid and inept on stage , lol.
There also should be a way to remember the parameters of a stored preset. At present to recall the settings of a preset you havent used in a while is a tedious trial and error process.
Also, please please give ping pong delay while using both stereo ins. This cant be roccket science, a lot of other stereo delay pedals can do this.

May 14, 2012 at 10:09 am #117552Mr. ORANGEMemberI think they should go MIDI – EHX is not at all MIDI-friendly…I’ve got an old DMM and DMB and I love it but I use delay on nearly every song and it’s pain in the *** to change it in live situation before every song, especially as I’m also a singer/frontman of our 3-piece band…I’ve developed this kinda “changing_the_settings_while_the last_chord_is_ringing” thingy but now I’m thinking of going full MIDI because I really like the sound of Strymon Timeline (I would still keep the DMM of course) – but I love how Deluxe Memory Man and SMMwH sounds even more than the Strymon…So it would be cool to have a SMMwH with MIDI clock, MIDI recalling presets and with at least 30 storable presets. It sure will be expensive as hell but it could cover up all digital delay needs and I think the EHX could still do it a bit cheaper than Strymon…
