Hi folks, is there a newer schematic available for the SMALL CLONE CHORUS re-issue? It seems the vintage S/C schematic shows an SAD1024 ic and other differences.
Basically, I’m trying to boost the output a bit as there is a noticeable volume drop on my particular SMALL CLONE.This is well documented on the SMALL STONE,with an easy 2 resistor swap fix.It worked like a charm on my vintage small SMALL STONE. Any body have a small CLONE volume drop remedy OR A RECENT EH SCHEMETIC? My board looks like the one in the photo.
Thanks in advance!January 11, 2011 at 7:49 pm #113651czech-one-2ParticipantThis was even easier than the small stone!
There is a 10k resistor by the 4558 ic.Its responsible for the overall volume at the output. By lowering it to 2k2 its just slightly lowder than unity gain when on, exactly what I wanted.
Hope this helps somebody out there!November 12, 2014 at 6:14 am #120376sinesightMemberHey there im about to buy a RI small clone so youre saying LOWERING the resistor raises the volume?
November 12, 2014 at 7:18 am #120378ScruffieMemberYup, he is.
November 12, 2014 at 7:49 am #120379sinesightMemberWill this work in the small stone eh4800 as well? I changed resistor r6 to 10k but still not as much volume as id like thanks!
November 12, 2014 at 9:09 am #120380ScruffieMemberNo, the small clone and small stone are entirely different circuits.
November 12, 2014 at 9:13 am #120381sinesightMemberAh okay im new to all this so thanks for clearing that up! If i wanted to solder a trim pot to the resistor how would I do that?
November 12, 2014 at 9:28 am #120382ScruffieMemberRemove the resistor (R6) tie together 2 adjacent pins of the trim pot together (legs 1 & 2 or 2 & 3, doesn’t matter, it’ll just change which direction the trim pot works) stick the single pin in the hole where one of the resistor legs went and the other 2 pins in the other hole.
Hope that makes sense.
November 12, 2014 at 9:33 am #120383sinesightMemberSo remove the resistor entirely with the trim pot and solder it to the pcb and this will control volume of the pedal? Is a 100k trim pot okay to use?
November 12, 2014 at 9:42 am #120384ScruffieMemberYou can use 100k, you may find it’s very touchy though… 22/25k (depends if you’re in Europe or US as to which will be the standard value) would probably be better.
From memory as i’ve never done this mod, it increases the gain of the input stage so you may find especially if your pickups are hot that some distortion is introduced in to the signal.
To be honest, the best and only way to properly defeat the small stone volume drop is to build up a small boost circuit and hook it directly between the pedal output and the footswitch… something like an LPB-1 would be fine and can be built on a small piece of vero board quite easily. You can visit either DIYStompboxes.com or Madbeanpedals.com’s forums and there’s a lot of helpful and friendly DIYers who can help guide you through the entire process (my self included) although be warned… DIY can be quite addictive
November 12, 2014 at 9:49 am #120385sinesightMemberHaha oh im aware ! I just learned to solder this week and i can tell! Where can I buy a trimpot that you would recommend? Once again thanks for all your help!
November 12, 2014 at 10:04 am #120386ScruffieMemberWhere are you located? UK you can use bitsbox.co.uk, US you can smallbearelec.com, Europe Banzaimusic or, you can get an extremely cheap one from Taydaelectronics.com, their quality on a lot of stuff is sub-par but the bourns 3362 trimmers they offer are perfectly okay, shipping can take 2 weeks though as it’s based in Asia.
November 12, 2014 at 10:10 am #120387sinesightMemberUS. I found pedal parts plus.com and it looks legit. Does trim pot wattage and percentage matter?
November 12, 2014 at 10:17 am #120388ScruffieMemberPedalparts is good, nah you don’t need to worry about that too much in this case.
November 12, 2014 at 10:21 am #120389sinesightMemberGreat! When im finished ill post some pics and update here in case anyone else needs help like I did haha thanks for all your help!!!
