Hey
I just thought it would be nice if we could post some pics from gigs we’ve all done
Here’s from my first ever public gig (december 3rd 2008) which was played in the café at the college i used to attent, at lunch time, and was recorded by the guys who were in the year below me on the sound engineering couse i completed in july (i may upload the 2 songs we did if they ever get round to giving us a copy!)
This is going to sound a bit far fetched, but the night before i’d woken up with a severe pain in my right leg and was barely able to stand up for the rest of the day, yet for some reason it got better later that day. After having limped onto the stage, i slung my guitar over my shoulder in the process smacked myself in the face with it! it has a nasty scratch where it came into contact with one of my teeth. I then turned to chris (the drummer) to nod to him to count me in, and he said “you’re bleeding!” and because i didn’t know how bad it was i kept my mouth shut tightly throughout to hide the injury – it was actually just a small cut. Basically i was in a lot of discomfort and don’t think i performed too well. The sound was was very weak too – i’m disappointed with those sound engineers. They had too much bass coming through the monitors, making bass players turn down. the next band to come on were told to stop mid-song and the show was closed by college officials due to “a large number of complaints about the noise”, which i later found out was the same killjoy member of staff making repeat complaints.
The band are currently named “the prediction” simply because we couldn’t think of a name. I’m the hairy one with the Ibanez JTK, although i normally use my “sage green metallic” fender strat with this band. We play soul/funk/R’n’B type music. Not pictured is the Sax player – i don’t actually know where he was but he did play
enough yackitty yack – post your gig stories/pics/sound clips
December 15, 2008 at 3:41 pm #89088electro-melxModeratorThis was my first gig…1992? (yeah, we liked smoke) that’s me in the yellow t-shirt, with Aria TA-40. we played a mix of Ned Atomic Dustbin, Mudhoney, Mega City Four, senseless things and Lovejunk etc covers and our own stuff….we did have a bass player btw, he’s just out of shot!!
oh btw….we we supporting ‘crazyhorse’ at a localish venue…..I kinda miss those straight into a marshall days!!
December 15, 2008 at 4:58 pm #89090julianModeratorooh ooh I gotta few
This is among the worst gigs I’ve ever played:
in some kids backyard. My sister’s ex boyfriend and his friend were there heckling me, it was really cold outside, and I could barely feel the frets on my guitar. It was back in the days of borrowing amps too. Probably my 2nd or 3rd show with my former one man band, the Spectral Presence. (which was down tempo 1 guitar and drum machine shoegazy post-punk)
Here’s another one:
me playing bass in my friend’s band
We were playing outside in the summer, so it wasn’t nearly as cold. We were playing for people waiting outside of Gamestop for whatever the newest Madden was that year. Haha.
And another
this was my first show ever 5 years ago around Xmas time- I had 4 noisy punk rock songs that I wrote- Nighingale, Labrat, 3rd World Hero, and something else I can’t even remember. I used 4 pedals- a blues driver, a frequency analyzer, a crybaby, and a johnson delay that my friend and I rehoused and added an expression pedal to control the time knob. So basically my board was all about making noises. And I practiced with the drummer and bass player once. So after about 2 songs in, my guitar went out of tune, so I just kept playing, and began improvising the lyrics. 3rd World Hero was about the desire to liberate sex slaves in poor countries by the force of a gun. So yeah. . . fun times. My hair was down to my shoulders back then.
another:
I can’t find the unprocessed version of this picture, but this was my first gig as “the spectral presence” about 3 years ago, notice the fabio cardboard cut out in my friends basement in the backgroundthis was about a year and a half ago, last gig I played I think.
man my hair looked so dumbso my band did this 20 minute song to end our show- so in the middle of the song I asked the celloist in this other band for his bow
so he brought it up and started playing that thing too
fun times
BTW I’m never having a haircut like that again
I look like a total dorkDecember 15, 2008 at 9:31 pm #89096McHavenModeratorOk I’ve got a few pics we can all laugh at. This first one is from my band’s very first gig when we were 15 or 16. I’m the dorky bass player with the short blue hair. God, I look terrible.
We went through about a million singers. Here’s the last show of that incarnation of the band
Now, the band broke up in our junior year of high school, until about November of our freshmen college years (Nov 2007 or so) We had some new much better tunes to play, found a great female singer (great singer, not necessarily great for our style though) This is that incarnation at our biggest show so far.

Now, the chick left the band around May 2008, due to school and whatnot. Not a real big loss. I happened upon this guy on craigslist around our area, our age and with a lot of the same influence. Not always the best singer, but he’s got energy charisma and he’s a great friend too. This was the last show we played before we all went back to college in August
Now we’re all back in town and I just gotta figure out what the hell we’re doing over our holiday
December 15, 2008 at 10:02 pm #89099Fender&EHX4everModeratorGreat thread!
These are some photos from my last 2 gigs in October. Gigs are pretty rare these days, but these 2 were a blast! My old band from my high school and university years reformed after a 15 year absence for our 20 year high school reunion.
I look forward to playing with these guys again, but I’d sure like to have a more regular gig.

Good times. :metal:
