My Russian Small Stone died yesterday, it was working in bypass mode but as soon as I engaged the effect it just went silent.
Up until now It had been working fine, although the effect sometimes took a little while to come through first time I switched on (or I could turn the rate right up & back down again & then it would be fine)
I lived with these weird ticks as it was pretty much my favourite pedal, even if it was a slightly rusty old thing I got 2nd hand,
I took the back off, (don’t ask me why I have no idea what I’m looking at) but thought if it was dead obvious I might be able to fix it.
As far as I could tell everything looked joined up except a green wire which came out behind the input but didn’t seem attached to anything at it’s other end,
& for some reason the rate knob has now come loose & is turning all the way round?
It seems I’m doing it more harm than good so I was hoping that if it was something that was reasonably simple to fix someone could give me some pointers,
I don’t really want to just give up on it & throw it away, although I will probably get a new NYC Small stone (classic rather than nano, just prefer the classic shape if I can get one) as I need a reliable phaser.

It should connect to the footswitch. If it’s hanging loose, that’s your problem.

(I tried to upload a picture here but my file was too big)
You will have to excuse my ignorance here, you say the green wire should run to the footswitch, I can’t see where exactly it has come away from so I’m not sure where it needs to go to.
The green wire has a little silver plate with a round hole in it I assume this is to attach it to something, but where on the footswitch does this need to attach to & how?
Is it simply a case of soldering it on?
I’ve been looking on the web for photo’s showing how these are wired & I can only find wiring schematics (that I don’t understand) or photo’s of the circuit board that don’t show where this wire goes to,
I don’t want to give up on this pedal & if I could fix it simply (with the aid of my brothers soldering iron & a screwdriver!) that would be great, not really sure where to get it fixed otherwise & it would be good to know how, in case it happens again.
With regard the now loose Rate Knob, I assume if I take it off then its fitting can simply be tightened up.
Your patience & help is appreciated!

It’s not going to make a difference on whether it works or not.May 31, 2009 at 8:11 am #97198devnulljpParticipantIs it a green or a black one?
This flickr set might help
Even if it doesn’t, try setting up a flickr (or photobucket or imageshack) account so you can link hi-res images to your posts.
Good luck. -
