Hi!
I’m doing some snooping around to find a pedal with a straight reverse function. I need the reverse to operate in real time, with no delay – or as little as possible. I want what I’m playing to come out clearly BACKWARDS as I’m playing it.
Of course, I’m assuming the EHX Cathedral is what I’d want as it has a reverse setting; but my local shop doesn’t carry one and the demos I’ve found have been insufficient for demonstrating the desired effect. Again, I’m after a direct reverse in real time; I’m not interested in the delayed aspect. Is this possible with the Cathedral?
Can anyone with hands-on experience with the Cathedral give me a hand here and let me know if this is possible? Or perhaps recommend a different EHX pedal that can get me there? I like what I’m hearing concerning the Cathedral in other aspects, so this would definitely be a deal-maker with me.
Thanks!
Well there are some physics related problems to real time reverse. A pedal can’t know the future, how long you’re going to hold the note, how fast it is going to fade out, any vibrato you may add to the note as it dies.
The cathedral does reverse reverb which wouldn’t really help you, though it is a cool effect.
The POG2, HOG, and Microsynth have attack controls (volume swell) which sounds like reverse, but the swell time is preset, which doesn’t quite reflect true studio reverse.
The best option is to have a delay with a good reverse and just play your reverse parts ahead of time.
Good call guys, thanks for the help. Yeah, I’m sorry for sounding like a DING DONG concerning real time…essentially I have been looking for a reverse with as little delay as possible.
Thanks again for the help!

Yeah, I’d very much like to. Plus I have an older Memory Man that I love, so I figure I could pass that on to someone else and upgrade, as it were. Now, to convince the wife…
