I just recently picked this baby up and it is AWESOME……But, It gives my Orange Amp a pretty loud hiss (when turned up moderately loud) both engaged and in (buffered?) bypass. The only way to combat this is to unplug the thing altogether. I currently have it at the end of my pedal chain after or before my tuner…It doesn’t seem to matter where I put it…I still get a hiss. Any suggestions??? Is the RAVISH I bought defective or is it just a beast??? Any chain suggestions???? HELP…THANX!

May 23, 2012 at 9:00 pm #117587CryabetesParticipantHave you tried contacting EHX customer support? These are fairly new and not many other users here have them yet.
May 23, 2012 at 9:56 pm #117590spacemanMemberThanx. I haven’t but will. It’s too bad there aren’t many users of the Ravish…I’d like to hear about different pedal board configurations. I think it may be a normal for the pedal to hiss a bit though…in the FAQs : “Some modulation effects do have a certain amount of noise that is acceptable to the manufacturer and cant be removed, be sure this is not what you are mistaking for a problem pedal. The types of noise include: Hissing and minor clicking etc. This is perfectly normal and acceptable by most users.” The pedal is awesome tho…with the lead turned down it can be used for serious drones and gets really intense with an expression pedal. Thank you for your reply.
August 21, 2012 at 1:45 pm #118024LouiswilliamMemberJust picked up Ravish pedal. Layed down a track to a song one of the guys in the band wrote. Sounds awesome but don’t know where it should go in effects chain for live performance. Only using a Boss ME70 and the Ravish. Considering an AB switch but that will add another box in the chain.
What say you all?August 21, 2012 at 5:24 pm #118025spacemanMemberThis is the set up I’ve been using…Orange amp>Holy Grail>Digitech Digital Delay>Ravish>Tremolo Pedal>MXR Blue Box>Boss Phase Shifter>VooDoo Fuzz>Boss Tuner>Rickenbacker Jet Glo. I’ve Just Acquired a Meistro G2 Rhythm ‘N Sound and now the ravish is compromised a bit(loosing some tone). The G2 is at the end…jut before my Ric. Any Tips??? Anyone??? The Ravish still gives off a lot of amp hiss anywhere in the chain but fine on its own.
August 21, 2012 at 7:04 pm #118027LouiswilliamMemberDo you have to use it as part of a chain. If not use an AB Switch. I just got done testing a chain for a live performance comming up.
Line goes: PRS24se, Ravish, boss me70, blues jr. Did not notice much hum. Only used chorus on me70 at same time as Ravish. Try turning down your sympathetic timber knob a bit. Sometimes guitar pickups will add a bit of noise, single coil especially. Move to another spot. I got tired of pedal boards and multiple connections so I got the me70 but it ain’t got nothin on it that sounds like the Ravish. Keep experimenting, you’ll solve it.August 21, 2012 at 9:44 pm #118028spacemanMemberThanks for the tips. I noticed the single coils do effect it. I love the personality of individual pedals or else I would go with a multiple fx unit. What would the AB do? Ravish sounds fine on its own. Thanks again.
August 21, 2012 at 9:53 pm #118029spacemanMemberOh…I think I get your meaning. I could use an AB to only have one signal hitting the Ravish without compromising the tone by being in the chain ?
August 21, 2012 at 11:37 pm #118030LouiswilliamMemberI would use the AB to remove the Ravish from the effects chain and sending it’s output directly to the amp. This is an extreme move if you can’t get rid of your problem any other way. Try putting the Ravish in the chain closest to the amp. You can expect a certain amount of noise and the more effects you have the more noise you can expect.
October 13, 2012 at 6:58 pm #118242FlystratMemberHi there
I added recently a Ravish to my setup and I am still amazed with the range of traditional and innovative sounds it delivers.
My setup is: Guitar – Boss Volume Pedal – Cry Baby – Ravish Sitar – Switcher – two preamps – stereo power
I formerly splitted the signal chain using the buffered entries of a GCX Switcher, and feeding two preamps, a Marshall JMP-1 and an Engl 530.
I tried to use the Sympathetic output of the Ravish in one of the switches, to choose if I feeded one of the preamps with the Lead sound line coming from the pedals or with thw Sympathetic sounds from the Ravish. This resulted in the hiss and ticking noise mentioned in some posts above, even with only the Ravish in the line.
Then I realized that when the Ravish is in bypass mode, both outputs send the input signal. I think that feeding the Ravish with a buffered signal results in those noises.
Now I simplified the setup and split the signal path right at the Ravish, sending one output to each preamp. This was a perfect solution, because I can have a clean sound in the preamp feeded directly by the Symp out, and the Lead goes to the Switcher as before.
I found a sound which is something like having a friend playing a Hammond-like keyboard, just following your tones while you play guitar. If anyone is interested just PM me.

What say you all?Hi
If you use distortion pedals I suggest to place the Ravish before them.
Anyway, you will see that applying heavy distortion to the Ravish results in confusing sounds. I split the signal, just todo that: overdriven sounds in Main channel and the Sympahetic output in a clean or slightly overdriven channel with possibly added chorus or some time based effects.
I hope this is helpful! -
