I’ve got a Qtron, the old model https://www.talkbass.com/attachments/qtron-jpg.2522717/
Cannot make a decent sound out of it.
The chain is mic –> preamp — Qtron –> compressor …
First thing first, it picks up a lot of sax key noise and tends to amplify the high frequencies with possible hissing.
Second, the Qtron sound does not come up. Tried on guitar and it’s super cool. On sax I could barely hear it.
I tried different combinations of Qtron settings and compressor settings.
I mimicked Dean Mongerio’s setting https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qqHyYBaBhas
No success.
If anybody is using it successfully and is willing to share their settings, I’d very very grateful
Cheers, Robbie
Hi Robbie
That is hard as the sax pickup is microphonic and in that frequency range boost, feed back and noise is boosted.
Try tuning off the compressor, the compressor is going to pull up all the noise.
Also try the Q-tron before the preamp so it is right after the pickup.
