Hello to everyone. This is actually my first post here on the forum, though I’ve long been an EHX fan and user. I recently got a sweet deal on a big box Q-Tron+, but it’s got some problems. First of all, the LED status light in the upper left corner never turns off. Second, I have to have the boost on, the gain cranked, and the drive switch up to get near unity gain. Even then, the sound I get is very shrill and the envelope barely opens. Also, the Overload LED is on nearly all the time. I assume this is because I have to crank everything, but I am not sure. I’ve tried every possible knob and switch configuration, checked that I’m using the correct power supply, and looked inside to make sure that nothing is blown or disconnected, but I’ve found nothing. Right now, the only way it is at all usefull is if I run a jumper cable from the effects loop send to the effects return. If anyone has any advice, please help me. I REALLY want to get this thing going because I know what it is capable of. Below are links to a couple of pictures I took of the guts. I don’t know if this will help, but I figured it would be worth the try. If anyone has a working Q-Tron+ that they could open up and compare, that would also help. Thanks.

You could do a really simple mod to fix that- all you need to do is replace your switch with a 3PDT, break the LED connection, and wire each side of the connection to the switch, so when the switch is off and the effect is off, the LED is off because the circuit is broken to the LED. Then when it’s on it is reinstated.
Your sound is very shrill and barely opens because you have the gain all the way up.
So to solve this problem we’ve got to figure out why you’re not at unity volume when the effect is engaged.
It also sounds like you’re in HP mode as well. Try switching it to LP mode perhaps. Usually high pass filters make it sound like you’re playing through a tinny and tiny radio. Do you know how different filters work? Because if you don’t it’s very easy to think that it’s not working right. In LP you shouldn’t need the boost or much gain.
Also, on your first picture in the middle there is a white trimpot there. Maybe it’s out of alignment and that’s why you’re not getting unity, though I’m not sure. It could just affect the sweep or do something more abstract. Maybe another moderator or an EHX staff member will pop in who knows a bit more about the Qtron+ than I do.

When I have the gain cranked in boost mode I can get near unity gain, but I’ve tried every possible knob and switch configuration and I get almost no envelope filtering and it is really harsh sounding and quite. When I run a jumper between the efx send and return it works just about like it should, but if I don’t do this it is unusable. I’ve twiddled every knob and switch and adjusted the trimpot and there is still not a usable setting on it.

1. contact info@ehx.com about getting it repaired
2. deal with jumpering itit sounds like the problem is somehow related to the bypass loop

Now my Q-Tron+ works perfectly and I love it. I’m not sure what they did to it, as there was no paperwork in the box, but it is now fantastic. Thanks!

Im sure ur one of u is the man to help me doing this Status LED rewiring…
Here’s a Pic of how my Qtron-Plus looks now.
If im not completely wrong, it allready got a 3PDT on it.
So i only have to rewire like that?:Wont there be a problem with the board getting too much power or something like that?
Thx for helping me out…
