I’m new here. Been playing guitar off and on for 35 years. I don’t play out and have no desire or time for it. I’m just now getting back into playing after a 5 year slow down. I have never used pedals. Had a Peavey Vypyr 75 and hated it and sold it.
I like southern rock, 60’s rock, 80’s metal and blues. I’m enjoying getting back into bluesy stuff.
My current gear is a VHT Special 6 ultra and Squier VM Thinline Tele.
I have about $340 that I could spend on gear. The local music store carries Boss and EHX. EHX has quirked my interest because they are made in America and not mainstream. I was thinking about a looper but don’t want a 1 trick pony like a Boss RC3. But would all the crazy stuff on the SMMH just be a waste of time for someone like me? I’m not into synth stuff.
I would also like a wah to play around with but I’m not sure about the EHX wah.
I liked the videos on the Tone Tattoo but I think the Metal Muff is too over the top plus I would lose the looper.
Gimme some recommendations.
Thanks for your time and patience.
Chris

There’s some nice subtle echo, delay, verb, and flange/chorus sounds to be had from the box. You have to know the controls though, if you turn one or two knobs up too far it gets very weird. That’s what a lot of people like about EHX over Boss. A lot of Boss pedals don’t give you that freedom (also in my opinion a lot of them just sound really cheesy.)
January 1, 2013 at 5:00 pm #118592robinsoncrMemberCan you dial in a subtle reverb and chorus at the same time?
January 1, 2013 at 5:11 pm #118593Mr.GrimMemberwith your budget you could get the Tone Tattoo and the Holy Stain. then you would have most effects covered that you need for now, especially for your style.
you would get distortion, noise gate, chorus, and delay from the Tone Tattoo.
and tremolo, overdrive, pitch shift and reverb from the Holy Stain!
January 1, 2013 at 5:22 pm #118594robinsoncrMemberI really like the idea of a looper. I liked the 15 sec loop on the Vypyr. Can you dial back the distortion on the tone tattoo from all out metal?
January 1, 2013 at 5:34 pm #118595Mr.GrimMemberat 3:22 he places the distortion knob all the way down so you can hear it. this is the larger stand alone metal muff but its the same circuit in the Tatoo but with extra boost and separate 3 band EQ, but the drive will sound the same.
January 1, 2013 at 6:34 pm #118596robinsoncrMemberWhat could I do for looping?
January 1, 2013 at 6:58 pm #118597Mr.GrimMemberwell the cheapest thing EHX has to offer is the stereo memory man w/ hazari, mainly its a delay, but as mentioned above it can do a lot more if you take time to explore, and i personally i use mine mainly for the looping function.
then there’s the 2880 but i think its discontinued, i think sum people still have it in stock, or you can get a used one on ebay or sum thing, but its very pricey!
or if you really are interested in the 2880, you could wait if your penitent, we all here in the forum assume its discontinued because they may release a newer version soon.
