Having problems getting my EHX 8 step program to work with my EHX polyphase. My polyphase works fine with an expression pedal and I have tried the 8 step program into a HOG and that works as it should. For testing purposes I was trying to simulate the effect of abruptly moving the foot pedal from the heel to toe position and back several times – so on the 8 step program I had the step sliders in alternating maximum or minimum positions, the rate a third of the way up, depth= 9 and glide=1.

When using a standard tip sleeve cable I got no results at all. When using the the supplied TRS cable I got some difference in sound when the Start knob was at min and the End knob was at max. However when I brought the min and max closer together I got no difference in sound even when using the expression pedal with these settings produced a very noticeable effect. It was like the 8 step controller could only half do the job with the polyphase, but there were no problems with the HOG.

Ideally, I would want to also use a standard tip sleeve cable (guitar cable) as I have a Moog controller that only works with them.
Also noticed that if anything including an expression pedal is plugged into the polyphase expression socket the LFO mode is affected if you switch to it. Just wanted to add that as background info. It is possible to work with though.

    Thanks in advance.

We will have to check the 8 Step with a Polyphase again. One thing I’m not sure about from your post, does the Polyphase work normally with an expression pedal or is it also problematic?

is absolutely fine with expression pedal. When you bring the start and stop closer together it is reflected in the sounds that you get out of the polyphase. My testing was programming the 8 step program to reflect moving the pedal up and down several times with a reasonable time spent at the toe and heel positions. There was a big difference in the result as detailed above.

    Thanks ,

The expression mode of the Polyphase is strange somehow… In the beginning it didn’t work with my ehx expression pedal (that works with my ehx talking machine and the memory boy without any problems). Ehx support told me that I should try to run the expression pedal with a battery – and suddenly it worked with my Polyphase! Also I tried to sync (MIDI clock) my ehx pedals with the Kenton Pro Solo MKII (MIDI-CV-converter with LFO etc.) – again works with my talking machine but NOT with the Polyphase. That’s really a pity because a synced Phaser would be great!
So I’m really interested if the Polyphase works with the 8 step or not! If not I’m not intereted in buying it. Are there any news?

EHX – can we please have some feedback on this. Apparently nothing was tested your end last March. Part of the draw of the 8-Step is that you can go way beyond what an expression pedal can do – but if your pedals don’t work with it, even with your supplied cable, then it’s not so good. Was disappointed the polyphase appeared not to work (apparently not just for me) as I rate the pedal a lot, and I bought the 8 step just for use with it really. I have to say it is a bit ironic Moogerfoogers work with the 8-step with any old TS cable but your own products don’t.

Second issue is that many of your pedals also claim to work with any +5v voltage supply, but I found out a couple of years ago this seemed not to be the case. Tried them with a Moog controller and a normal TS cable – no luck. Again this could have been tested by yourselves before it was written in the manual. Moogfoogers have jacks for either an expression pedal or a +5v supply, and they work with both.

Please let us know on both issues.

    Thank you,

    Justin
