Hey all.
So I just bought this awesome pedal from a local guitar store. It was slightly used but it didn’t seem to have any wear or tear. I took it to my bands practice space, plugged it in, dialed in some awesome guitar tone and then all the sudden the volume of the guitar coming out of my amp started to slowly die. The volume would decrease until the point that you couldn’t hear anything and then suddenly re-appeared when I bypassed the Tube EQ pedal. I have a lot of pedals so I went through all my pedals one by one and confirmed that it was indeed the Tube EQ and not any other pedal or my amp itself that was causing this to happen.
The next day I took it back to the guitar store. The guy who sold it to me said that maybe one of the tubes is loose, he removed the tube cover, jostled with the the tubes, and gave it back to me to play in the store to see if the same problem happened. I played it for a while and it seemed to work fine. But to my dismay, at band practice the next day it started to happen again!
Can somebody pleas help me! I have a big show coming up and I really want to use this pedal because it makes my Strat sound like the voice of god himself.
Thanks

But I would honestly like to fix it myself because I’m sure I would have to pay the price of what I originally bought the pedal for just for a tech to tell me that the tubes are bad, which I’m pretty sure is whats causing the problem.
I’m no expert but I’m almost certain that its a problem with the tubes. When I looked at the tubes in the pedal they did look like they were aftermarket Russian tubes and not EHX tubes. Do you think this guy who originally bought the pedal put in the wrong tubes? Could that result in this sort of problem?

I suppose it’s possible. You might try swapping the tubes out.
Be careful if you start poking around in it. There’s high voltage inside.April 25, 2011 at 2:25 am #115085EHX STAFFKeymasterVery good chance its NOT the tubes.
It needs to be serviced and that pedal its not user serviceable at all!
DO NOT open it up as its a high voltage circuit.
If you short out the board with the case you will kill the pedal.
Return the unit if it is new or send it in for repair. -
