ok so i am booked for a a gig at the house of blues and im kinda under prepaired. i first had to form a band (which still isnt finished) then i had to write songs (which still arent finished) and i have to have music to go along with it (which still isnt finished) so im asking you, my dearest ehx buddies, to help me out. give me some inspiration; some hope; some ideas; anything.
play some blues man, dead-easy to learn and play with other unknown musicians, easy to find chords, lyrics etc.. and it can do all sort of ranges from “happy good times r’n’blues” to “my wife just left me and all i got is Southern Comfort” style…
set up is fairly easy and quick as well and you dont need alot of musicians to make it sound right
anyways thats my two cents.. i hope to you the best of luck ( i have been in a similar situation and at the very last moment i cancelled…) and let us know how it went
just wanted to offer some luck and mention that I miss playing shows where I’m underprepared. some of your best material hits when you are.
interesting. well ive got a ton of money lent out to a few people and if i can gather up enough by monday, i should buy a cathedral and ehx strings. that should drastically improve my sound and inspiration. lets hope it goes well.
oh and anyone have any local “inspiration places” to go to? my buddy and i go to fast food places to write songs and surprisingly it works well but anyone know of places to play at? theres crappy music stores but that doesnt always work
When all else fails, JAZZ ODYSSEY!
I doubt I’m a savant, but blooze has always been so simple for me. If you can count, and can follow a I IV V, you’re good to go. If I’m in uncharted waters, I always ask if there’s a quick IV change. Get a drummer who can shuffle. It shouldn’t be a nerve wracking experience. This is an awesome shuffle in ‘D’ with a quick IV change; SHUFFLE IN ‘D’!. If you can follow this, there ain’t nothing that should scare you.
