    Hey everyone!

Figured I’d start out by saying hi (new to the board). Thanks for having me!

Now for the question… I’m curious as to what would be a good position for a HOG in an effects chain. I’m working on getting a pedalboard going (funding is the only thing in the way). I’ll be using a TB strip for the pedals in the chain, and most likely going by the general guidelines of how to chain, i.e. wah-> comp-> drives-> eq-> fuzz/dist.-> modulation-> loop, etc.

So considering that, would it be best to consider it as part of the wah stage, the modulation stage (along with chorus, delay, etc.), or as it’s own entity? Part of what I’m thinking is how the other pedals would work with the HOG, like having an overdriven signal going INTo the HOG to effect it vs. having the signal go to the HOG first and then OD-ing the whole signal, which would then change the wet output from it, as well.

Any suggestions would be useful, whether from experience or from some sense that I might be missing at the moment haha.

If I were you I’d put it before drive but after compression. Of course, you can always experiment. There’s no right or wrong, just personal taste.

The HOG is a tough one to place. Typically, I would place it at the very start of the FX chain. But it’s such a versatile pedal, it can be used in many different places. If you find yourself using the Freeze Volume a lot, for example, I would use both outputs so I could effect the dry output differently than the frozen output.

Thanks guys. I’ll try some things out once I have the chance. I don’t have the HOG yet… college makes the pockets line thinly, but once enough has been saved, I’ve got some fun comin’ my way.

I need to figure out how to build a box so that I can switch between using it in parallel or in series.

This is how I place mine:

    pitchblack> Jeckyll & Hyde > Chopper > Moller > Polychorus > DL4
    > HOG >

output of the chopper is stereo

I didn’t try the 2 outputs of the HOG, how does it work actually? cause with this chain I can have overdrive when I use the freeze mode but also if I want a clean synth sound with an overdrive dry signal

Maybe I complicate it with this chain…

I wait for my new power supply before I try another possibility (modtone powerplant in order te power the HOG & the Polychorus)

Well one signal just sends out your clean, one sends out your effected signal (which also includes clean if you have the dry slider up)

I did go into MS Paint and figured out how to wire up a switch box for it, but I still need to get a box and the parts.

Hi bro, I`ve got about 24 effects in my chain and I am still not sure where to place the HOG or the FREEZE( other than the videos on
the EHX site by that genius guy whatever his name is). I guess experimentation is the name of the game. Some guys say place the FREEZE pedal toward the beginning of the chain, but it makes more sense to treat it like a loop device which I place near( or at, the end) . Any advice?

    Hello All,

In my opinion, the HOG is the most amazing tone shaper for guitar out there & the more tone you give it, the better job it can do. So, I put everything that can colour the sound before the HOG & then delay or chorus afterwards. Usually I have a chain like:

    Guitar CMP
    English Muff’n
    MicroSynth
    Flanger Hoax
    HOG
    SMMH

I’m sure you notice the Flanger HOAX before the HOG, that’s just me experimenting & I’m going to place it after the HOG next but I just wanted to see what the FH did to the HOG. The FH is my newest pedal so I’m still trying to figure it out……… may take a while………
