Any thoughts?
Isn’t it cool when your wish is answered before you’ve even asked for it? MEMORY BOY!!!! sounds like a spoof TV series. “He Remembers his own BIRTH!!!” @_@
February 17, 2009 at 11:48 am #93429Dr. MattModerator‘Good’ is subjective. Some prefer MXR, others prefer EHX. I personally prefer EHX, That’s why i’m here 😆
the only MXR pedals i’ve liked were the clean boosts, but i still felt that they were very overpriced.
February 17, 2009 at 3:22 pm #93436julianModeratorYeah I haven’t liked any of the Dunlop/MXR stuff I’ve tried. I really thought I’d like the Distortion+ but I ended up liking the DOD-250 (which is very similar) more when I tried it in the shop.
February 17, 2009 at 7:52 pm #93449PumpkinPiecesMemberThe Blue Box is the best pedal mxr makes, with or without the volume drop.
Just thought I’d throw that out there. Put it before a big muff and you have some killer Grunge Fuzz.
February 17, 2009 at 8:55 pm #93454Fbanks88MemberMXR just isn’t cuttin’ it anymore. Even their dyna comp colors your tone with a little more high end when you use it. But as Dr. Matt said. their stuff is way over priced for what it is.
February 18, 2009 at 1:51 am #93480JRigglesMemberI tried the Dyna Comp head to head with a Soul Preacher on my bass, and loved the Soul Preacher ten times more. The DC sounded…dull and lifeless, imo. I now use my SP almost constantly.
February 18, 2009 at 2:57 am #93483BlueSteelParticipanti prefer ehx over dunlop/mxr except for the crybaby and the phase 100 (only dunlop/mxr i own though) and i love both of them. i can’t really find a phaser that i like besides the phase 100, except until i try out a small stone

He steals my Big Muff to do that. He’s just misinformed on the proper side of the subjectivity that the good Doctor mentioned. I plan on adding a Memory Boy to my board, so I’ll just prove him wrong as soon as I get the chance.

That made mine make some STRANGE sounds one day at recording session. That pedal is actually why I joined this forum in the first place! [By the way, the guy who started this thread is playing my Small Stone in the recording I am talking about. Steals my Big Muff, steals my Small Stone… Strikes 1 and 2. I’m waiting to come home from work (we are roomies as well as bandmates) and find him playing through my Stereo Pulsar or something so I can put this MXR business to rest.]

I think MXR is pretty alright, they’ve been turning things around after a few lackluster years. I’m especially pleased that JD gave Way Huge new life, hopefully Mr. Tripp’s product line will soon be expanding towards it’s former glory.

MXR used to be a fantastic pedal company until it was bought by dunlop, now it’s pretty average.
Gotta agree with you there. The newer stuff is getting better, if they’ll just focus on exact reissues and quit worrying about selling EVH and Zakk Wylde garbage. Also, it would be nice to see a true fuzz that doesn’t have Jimi Hendrix’s name all over it.
Man…EHX dudes are just as vicious and whiny as mandolin players.
