Just wondering what order I should put these pedals in. Ibanez TS-9, Big Muff Pi, Boss Digital Delay, Q Tron +, LPB-1, Boss Compression, Dunlop Crybaby

1) LBP-1
2) Dunlop Crybaby
3) Boss Compression
4) Big Muff Pi
5) Ibanez TS-9
6) Q Tron +
7) Boss Digital DelaySee how that shapes up!

1) Crybaby
2) Q Tron+
3) Compressor
4) Tube Screamer
5) Big Muff
6) Delay
7) LPB-1July 14, 2009 at 11:00 pm #99437WatsonWoodMemberQuote:or as an alternative, this is how I’d probably start.1) Crybaby

7) LPB-1Interesting,electro-melx; I would be wary of general hiss and amplified noise from the LPB-1 at the end of the chain, especially after the Delay, but then I tend to be focussed on a “clean” sound even when using several pedals at once. I suppose one could call this auditive paranoid schizophrenia.

Qtron+ > Comp > Wah > Muff > TS9 > LPB1 > Delay
Comp after Qtron+ because you want the Qtron+ to respond to your playing dynamics.
Wah before fuzz because other way around sounds like a vacuum cleaner. Although that can be nice sometimes. With distortion, first thing I’d try is high gain going to lower gain. Though I’ve heard people have success with TS9 into Big Muff.

It just seems to work better for that with nothing after it in my experiences.

I suggest some possiblities:
* If you’re using the Q-Tron + without its effect loop:
a) Dunlop Crybaby -> Big Muff Pi -> Ibanez TS-9 (with gain at minimum)> Boss Compressor -> LPB-1 (boost for fuzz & OD section for solos) -> Q-Tron + -> Boss Digital Delay.
b) LPB-1 (always engaged) -> Dunlop Crybaby -> Ibanez TS-9 (with gain at minimum)-> Boss Compressor -> Q-Tron + -> Boss Digital Delay.
c) Dunlop Crybaby -> Big Muff Pi -> Ibanez TS-9 (with gain at minimum) -> Boss Compressor -> Q-Tron + -> Boss Digital Delay -> LPB-1 (general boost for certain moments).
I don’t have experience using effects loop but sure other people may give you more suggestions using this additional feature of the Q-Tron +.
Good luck!

I’d go:
Q Tron > Compressor > TS-9 > Wah > Muff > Delay > LPB-1
The reason why I put the wah where I do is so I have have pre or post overdriven wah. I use the LPB-1 on the end as a pure boost to add a touch of mids.
Also your TS-9 needs the 4558 chip in it or one similar. It’s not really a Tube Screamer till you do that. I’d also throw the Boss Compressor away or mod it. A vintage modded Dynacomp sounds way sweeter! Good luck, and remember it’s all in what YOU want and want YOUR tone to be! Google chain effect order or something similar to find a plethora of ideas.

Yeah, the Boss Compression/Sustainer is garbage. Its really loud. Thanks for the advice everyone.
July 15, 2009 at 6:47 pm #99485devnulljpParticipantEverything before everything else.
Filters (wah and dynacomp) before dirt
Compressor after filters and before dirt (unless you want white noise).
Delay and modulation at the end or in FX loop if you have one.
I usually go low gain -> high gain with dirt, but regular (not muff) fuzz before dirt.
The boost? Depends what you want to use it for. Boost->OD will give you more gain (not necessarily volume); OD->boost will give you more volume (not necessarily gain). So, FWIW: Wah->Qtron->comp->TS9->BMP->delay with boost depending on use
But I also agree with justubert: dump (or mod) the crybaby and the Boss compressor.
July 15, 2009 at 7:34 pm #99489justubertMemberAre ya’ll talking about the MXR M-102 Dynacomp. What do you guys think of the Black Finger? And are all Compressors noisey?
July 16, 2009 at 10:00 am #99510devnulljpParticipantMost compressors are noisy to some extent by virtue of what they do, but some are noisier than others. Nothing beats an old Dynacomp if you ask me. (Not the M102, an old one from the 70s. Scripts are best, but expensive. I found a transition block logo with script guts and it sounds great). Haven’t they just reissued those as custom shop hand wired versions? I saw a Phase 90 and it looked pretty good..
July 16, 2009 at 4:22 pm #99520B.DawsParticipantI use the Rocktron Big Crush (because I got a great deal on it) but I modded my cousin’s dynacomp to Monte Allum’s Vintage Mod (about $25) and I loved it and he said it sounded just like the one he had in the 70s now.
A note on noise, I think a lot of people don’t understand compressors. They usually are not noisy it’s the other pedals in your chain! When the compressor evens out signals it brings up the noise in all your other pedals to a more audible volume and makes it exponentially worse. Experimentation can cure this!

The most of my pedals are ehx… but every time i mix a echo delay with fuzz i lost volume or phaser and fuzz or octave and fuzz… there are some they say my order is wrong, I have a USA Big muff, Russian, little big muff, bass big muff, metal muff, with the metal muff and Big muff USA and the Russian that is not the case but with the other ones I lost volume

Small Clone<
(Sometime) Tuner<
Wha<

So forget about your boss and mxr stuff (though Im sure they are ok) Slash out and get a black finger or a soul preacher, you will not be dissapointed.
