Got my first Ipod yesterday. The 120GB Classic.
Ok, say you rip a cd to Itunes. Then you put the cd onto you Ipod. Now say you delete the cd from your Itune’s library. Next time you connect, the Ipod, does it delete the cd off of the Ipod?
If so, is there a way to get around this?
My last mp3 player was a Creative Labs. With the Creative Labs software, you were able to do this. Rip the cd to the player only or rip it to your computer. Load it to the player. Then delete it from the computer. Then the music would remain on the player, until you deleted, the music, from the player, itself.
Thanks,

January 18, 2009 at 3:56 pm #91054electro-melxModeratoryes as far as I know it does (and the reason I refuse to use Itunes/Ipod) I have a samsung MP3 player and I can just drag MP3’s on and off it, no problems at all.
so yeah, you have to buy a massive hard dive to leave all your music on!!! when my mate first got an ipod he spend days putting loads of his CD’s on it, then he took them off his computer (no point in leaving them on there, he owns all the cd’s) went to put a new album on a couple of weeks later and lost the whole lot from his Ipod….he wasn’t amused!!

I hate adding CD’s into itunes. It takes forever. Unless you have no other programs running except itunes, it goes a little bit faster.
i should have gotten a zune…

🙄 I hate apple…..on my PC it always does some kind of automatic default thing, and it’s a nightmare trying to get things to open with the program you really want to use….I took everything apple off, I only have quicktime because you need it to watch some things online, but even that’s a right pain…..it keeps popping up with boxes asking me if I want to download this and that….arrgggghhh .
January 18, 2009 at 4:14 pm #91057BlueSteelParticipantItune always has things to update to the lastest version of itunes or ipod software.
and its like every 2 weeks, so it gets annoying.
January 18, 2009 at 4:26 pm #91058MINGMemberThe question from my 1st post. Will a Zune do this?
January 18, 2009 at 4:40 pm #91059electro-melxModeratorI have no idea, but I’m pretty certain an Ipod is the only MP3 player that does this.
January 18, 2009 at 4:41 pm #91060electro-melxModerator….although zune does have it’s own software, so maybe? I don’t know I’m afraid.
January 18, 2009 at 5:22 pm #91062MINGMemberSomeone, from HC, just posted saying, if in manual mode(sync wise), it doesn’t do this. Gonna give this a try. If not, I might look into how the Zune handles this. Both were the same price. Bought it last night at Best Buy, so exchanging them shouldn’t be a problem. I just finally fell victim to Apple. Oh… Dark Days Ahead.
January 18, 2009 at 6:21 pm #91067julianModeratorI think you can avoid that using the program ephpod

January 18, 2009 at 7:49 pm #91070MINGMemberSo far, it works. I have about 30 albums on the Ipod. One is Begger’s Banquet. I deleted it from my Itunes library. After disconnecting my Ipod and reconnecting it and putting more music on. Begger’s Banquet is still on the Ipod. Saves me a trip to Best Buy.
Thanks to everyone who posted!!!
