Hello everyone.
I’m the owner of a NYC Big Muff, one that’s not that old (but I don’t know exactly when it was made, I bought it used round 2004, 2005) and it worked fine for some time, I think. I just recently noted, using a fuller pedalboard, that the pedal is sucking much of my tone in bypass mode. I tested all of my units individually, with the guitar lying down and an Ebow on one string, to get a constant volume sound… then switched through all pedal and into a recording interface, and what I got was the Big Muff was taking about 8db from the sound. That more than my non-true bypassed pedals, and it’s not really acceptable. When I use it on the pedalboard, the clean sound get really small and lifeless. Has anyone else had this problem?
Some of the earlier RI Big Muffs aren’t true-bypass so that may be your problem. Check to see if the footswitch is a blue or black one. Blue = true-bypass, black = not true-bypass.
You mean inside the box? The outside is silver as the rest of the box…
If it’s the case of the pedal being non-true bypass, I’d only have to replace the switch for a 3 dpt or something one, right? (Yes, I know s* about electronics 🙄 )
Yes, you need to look at the switch body inside the pedal. You can see it through the battery holder hole.
You would need a 3PDT for true-bypass w/ LED.
From a quick research here I believe it’s a V9 NYC Reissue… but I have to check the color of the switch. The one I found on the internet is blue, 9 connections. I’ll check mine when I get back home from work.
Thanks for the help so far!
The bugger’s a black one!
Is there any way to date a Big Muff reissue?
Not really
Alright.
Thanks a lot for the help!
