Not exactly vintage but we don’t have another suitable forum so it goes here.
This is my second one of these (4th sovtek/9th big muff)), they sound awful stock as usual but its already modified into a slightly modified V2 ramshead and now sounds great.
Got this one in a trade, I have the original box too!
The only reason I like these is because the enclosure is the coolest ever made IMHO! And they are good for modding.
This one strangely enough has 150k pots with tolerances so bad they range from 98k to 160k!
Congrats on the cool muff! Those are my favorite issue of muffs–therefore I consider it heresy to mod them The 150k pots are stock and only came on the Green Thin Font versions (traced a bunch of them). If you have extra muff parts after your modding, please PM, and I’d buy them from you for fixing a couple that I have, plus a home build.
You have a nice collection in that photo. Here is my collection (minus a few that I just sold):
It seems we bump into each other (and Kit Rae) all the time now
Thanks again for checking on the switch, I really do appreciate it. I wish there was a place to get more of the rare Sovtek parts. I do like most Muff versions (the early Sovteks being my favs), but I had 3x 3034s so I decided to sell the two extra. The reverse graphic is a 3034, which I kept. They are pretty crazy sounding…way saturated! I did have one that was on the lower part of the gain spectrum, but the other 4 (? I’m losing count now…) have had that over distorted bass and lots of gain–had to keep one for recording. I really enjoy the texture that a good muff provides.
Nice find. It took me several years of trading back and forth on ebay to find a tall font green that I liked. Most were really dull and lifeless sounding. They are amongst the coolest looking of the Sovteks. I don’t think there is a meaner looking pedal. I have two, but the paint is in awful condition on mine. Yours looks intact. For some reason the early green Muffs have the most problem with the paint flaking off.
This new one has flaky paint but my first one has really hard wearing paint, its way darker too, so dark you can barely read the writing on it. The above pic of my first one is amazing as the writing is clear as. In real life you have to twist the pedal at certain angles to see the writing. the second one doesnt have this problem at all. And on the 2nd one its only the top plate that the paints flaky, not the cast cast part.
That’s all right. Someone mentioned on another forum a while back that they had a “reverse logo” Muff. I asked that person (probably someone who is one here too) what a “reverse logo” was, forgetting that is what I referred to that particular color combination as on my own website. I think that term has been used for quite a few years.
Thanks guys…I really dug the reverse logo look. It would be cool if they did issue some of their newer pedals like that as well. I’ve always know it as “reverse logo” or “reverse graphic” over the years. The funny thing is that there used to be these things called Lamb’s Head” muffs, but I guess they don’t have them anymore! The Ram population must of over took them. The odd thing is that it should technically be “Ram’s Head” but usually I see “Rams Head” or “Ramshead”. Ah, the semantics of fuzz pedals! I guess it is appropriate given the unique title of the pedal. lol.
