I purchased a Crying Tone Wah at the beginning of July and it has stopped working. It only has a few hours of play on it (my 14 year old son uses it and he is extremely careful with his stuff). The pedel turns on and off but there is no output. We have tried new battteries, swapped cables, all the obvious stuff. Anyone with a similar problem or proposed fix? Thanks!

March 24, 2013 at 5:44 pm #118865superficialstarMemberToday I encountered the same problem, I have it for less than a month (bought 3/2). The battery was dead so I connected a ZOOM power supply(9v, 300ma, Negative center) that I have used with many pedals before without a problem, including an EHX Octave Multiplexer and a Little Big Muff Pi. At that point the crying tone started to hum and had no signal although the EHX logo was lit. At bypass still no signal. I disconnected everything, tried a different power supply with the same specs, tried giving it power from a slave cable from my pitchblack tuner still the same. So I bought a new battery to try, opened the battery door and ta-da! The smell of something fried! My guess is that the input capacitor or some other capacitor in the buffer section is fried, probably a defective one. So, built like a tank? It looks to me more like a crab… Hard outside, vulnerable inside.

After an hour of playing I encountered the same problem even without testing it with a power supply!!! Fresh pedal with its factory battery after an hour went dead. I tested it with two new batteries to no effect but this time nothing smells fried and no hum. I guess if I try it with a power supply I’ll be having the same outcome as the first one, funny smell and hum.
I hope this message comes to EHX’s attention, you probably have a [strong]defective batch[/strong] of Crying Tones.

There are so many name brand American businesses out there who need the right people to allow them a renaissance period. All the one man Muff operations are profiting from EHX’s dead-wood management.
