Hey dudes,
I’m a new guy (flame on). I play in a thrash/progressive/ metal band Orwell (myspace.com/orwellwi).
We are currently beginning the writing process for our next record and we really want to step up the progressive/weirdness of our music and I have been looking at the vocoder/voice box pedals.
Anyone have any suggestions on which pedal would be more useful/ responsive to our genre? It’s not something I am going to be using constantly, more of an occasional tool to add dynamics and color to the more drawn out droning aspects of metal that we are starting to move towards. I want to say the Faceless, but they used a consistant effect throughout their new album, which was cool, but not what we are going for. They are an example tho of a band that experiments with this that kind of gave me the interest in the first place.
Hope to hear some suggestionsexpect alot of flaming and bashing of my band.
peace fellas!

Personally, I’m on the Voice Box side of the fence. The features just seem more useful to me.
November 27, 2009 at 9:44 pm #104321electro-melxModeratorJust listened to the band… it sounded good to me, not my kind of thing really but I was getting into ‘a promise of pain’ just then
I haven’t tried either pedal so I’ll refrain from making a comment about that… but both manuals are available here:
https://www.ehx.com/assets/instructions/voice-box.pdf
and here
https://www.ehx.com/products/v256/instructions
so that might give you some idea of the difference and help you decide which will be best.
…oh, and pleased to have you on the forum. Everyone is welcome regardless of what music they play.
November 28, 2009 at 3:42 pm #104351orwellguitarMemberholy shit, a forum without super flaming “keep your mouth shut till you have 3000000 post count” dudes. I like this.
haha anyway, yah I am still very on the fence on this one. I’ll probably buy whichever one is more conveniant. ie, cheaper on ebay or if I actually found one in a guitar store. And then try it out, dont like it, return/resell and check out the other one. We’ll see. thanks for the info and tips dudes.

November 28, 2009 at 9:16 pm #104370ChadfishParticipantTo ad to the discussion I have some questions to try to figure out the similarities of the V256 and the VoiceBox. I have another thread but I want to get this going because I need to purchase soon.
Hi
I was originally interested in the Voice Box, but now I see the V256 advertised. I can’t seem to get much info on either. My main question is this:
• Is the V256 everything the Voice Box is, only with added features?
Other questions:
• Which is better at harmonizing?
• On the V256 can you make harmonies by finger picking guitar? Thanks. Mods please chime in.

August 6, 2010 at 6:08 pm #110750DanielisisParticipantDoes anybody know which one is a better vocoder? I’m hesitating between buying the Voice Box or the V256. Then, I want to make this small Chinese bowed instrument called Erhu to sing my words. Did anybody try bowed instruments?
Thank you very much.
