Hello, so I have been recording over the past 10 years using computer programs and plug ins and decided it’s time to move on and back to the days of actually doing something… that being said
Here’s my equipment:
i bought the freeze, cathedral, big muff, and line6 dl4
and a vox valvetronix v20+ amp
and record into Logic StudioI have a couple of questions:
After I chain these together with patch cables what do i do next…
Is there a specific order i should have these chained?
Where do i plug my guitar into (one of the pedals or the amp?)
How do i run this in to an amp so the effects come out?and if i don’t want to run into an amp can i plug directly into my Apogee Duet?
I feel really dumb asking these since i’ve been recording for so long, but like i’ve been relying on computer effects
which take no brains.thanks for any help or suggestions!

Usually people tell you to run your overdrive/distortion in first, through the regular input, and delays and reverbs through the effects loop. The fact of the matter is that running those delays and reverbs through the effects loop don’t really change the sound. I usually just run my delay last in the signal chain, then over drive or what ever.
As for plugging straight into your duet, it depends on what you want to do, if you want to plug just your guitar, you have to make sure the duet has a preamp (idk if it does or doesn’t), same goes for if you want to plug your guitar through your effects and into your duet.
At first I thought you were seriously trolling…

There is no right or wrong way to chain effects, but dirt is generally best before delay and reverb, so I would go:
Guitar – muff – dl4 – cathedral – amp (as I’m pretty sure the Vox doesn’t have a dedicated effects loop)
Not sure about the freeze, it’s a time based effect so maybe try it between the dl4/cathedral. it’s best to experiment with different positions and see what works best for you.
Hope this helps
Good luck

(Ex record a drone note with the infinite rev setting on the Cathedral, then play some lead with the Big Muff over top). If the freeze is first in the chain, then all the effects you have on after it will affect the Freeze. (Ex if you freeze a note, then turn on yer big muff, both the freezed (is that a new word now? Lol) sound and what ever you play over top will be “Muffed”.
Hope that helps ya out.

P.S. Most of the time I like my delay last.. But I love the sound of my DLS and wah after my Deluxe Memory Boy. So I bought a Stero Memory Man with Hazarai. Now I have delay before and after;) And a lil trick with yer DL4 in loop mode: if you have the half speed button enabled (lit LED) before you record your loop, you get double the record time, from 14 to 28 seconds. Quality is sacrificed, but I never noticed in a live setting.

March 31, 2011 at 1:42 pm #114740TheGhostMachinaMemberA lil off topic, but I just checked out Melx’s Blog, and it’s awesome. Now the next guitar effect I want is a Hakko soldering iron!
