Hi, I am using the Big Muff Pi to mostly achieve a fuzz-grunge foundation for my rhythm playing, but would like
to boost the signal when playing a solo. Right now I have a Way Huge Green Rhino that I had been using as a boost when I used a Boss DS-1. Even with the Drive on the Rhino turned all the way down there is too much breaking up of the tone in my solo. I’m looking for my solos to be saturated, but smooth and creamy, while couched in the Big Muff fuzz. I’ve tried different setting with the fuzz, even has the sustain knob at 9:00 and the tone knob at around 12:00. I am running it with the clean side of a Marshall DSL-201 combo (20 watts, 12″ speaker), and using a Fender Pawn Shop Mustang guitar. My pots on the my guitar are all the way open and set the volume through the amp and pedals using the volume pedal to control volume.
I have an Emx Micro-Amp, an Emx 6-band equalizer and an Emx Compressor which I am not using right now in this situation. I love the boost and tone I got from the Green Rhino when it came after the DS-1 and was hoping I could make it work with the Muff.
Thx.

The only thing I’ve ever used with a Muff for a boost was a simple EQ pedal. Crank up the level and adjust the EQ and it really sweetens the Muff’s tone a lot. I use it before the Muff, though, not after. My Cry Baby comes after the Muff and I often put the Cry Baby into the half cocked position to give it that slightly strangled tone. Everyone has a different preference, but this has worked for me for about 40 years now.
I use an ARTEC ParaEQ in front of mine & it sounds great. It’s not that expensive & it doesn’t take long to get the sound you want.
I have a Hot Tubes nano after my Muff and also a Lpb-1 later in my fx chain. Smooth cream for days
