    hello all, i need recommendations for recording multi tracks on my PC. sum thing easy to use, sounds great, but preferably free or very cheap. (i have a lot of financial probs right now) :freak:

    well… Reaper :) BUT if you use ASI4ALL drivers for windows, there can be some problems… it can sometimes crash your PC.

    You’ll be hard pressed to find anything that good for less. I’m using an earlier version and it works great for me.

    Absolutely. I am using an updated version of Magix Music Studio and it does work really well. Great value for money.

    it tracks well, but depending on your input quality and volume, it will change your sound

    That is not so good. Of course some software packages demand a lot of ressources from PCs and notebooks, so often the trouble can be with RAM, processor, sound card and graphic card rather than the software itself. Fuzzy tracking, bad sync, glitches and freeze are the reasons I decided to use Magix rather than one of the pro brands which my laptop cannot deal with. And a nice large monitor helps a lot too.

    i know audacity and:

    pros: it’s freeware and very user-friendly… easiest software for recording i know

    cons: well, i’d never use it for some serious multitrack recording… i think it’s just too simple and it’s missing too many features for me… the way i see it, it’S a great software for people that have backingtrack and want to record a solo over it… for people, that don’t need to work like a pro, for people who need to record something fast

    My vote goes to Audacity.
    It is freeware, crossplatform, works with many audio formats (import and export), also does not need ultra-high speed hardware.
    Audacity supports all kind of drivers, even ASIO and it’s open source (means that you can modify it for your needs).
    It comes with lots of plugins, and supports program language for making your owns effects.
    Audacity supports VST effects too.
    Most of the features of Audacity are designed for audio editing, thus the only one con I see is that you can’t use effects live, but only apply them on already recorded (dry) sound.
