So I found an old blue deluxe memory man for sale. How do they sound compared to the newer-ish red faced ones with the chorus/vibrato?
I’m assuming you’re comparing 4-knob to 5-knob versions. The SAD1024 delay chips used in the old 4-knobs aren’t as clean as the MN3005s used in the 5-knobbers.

Thank you very much. This has shown me the tone that I love comes with the 5 knob one. Time to throw down $200. lol.
Yep. The classic DMM sound has modulation. I like my old ’78 for gritty lofi stuff, but my 5knobber is the magic machine.
It reduces the tendency for runaway self-oscillations at higher feedback settings. Not very exciting.
