hey everyone
i’ve got one of the limited edition mogwai big muff’s that have been written about here before and which i’m finally -reluctantly – looking to part with. it’s never once been used and is still in the original box (it belonged to my late brother who was a musician and was given it by a music industry friend who was somehow involved with the band, but he never got round to using it).
i was thinking of putting it on ebay, but i thought it might be an idea to mention it here first since anyone who is passionate about muffs was more likely to see it here. if anyone knows anyone who might be interested then please pass the message on.
thx
October 5, 2010 at 11:20 pm #111830Ned FlandersModeratorUnless you’re a big mogwai fan I don’t see the big deal with these, they are just NYC reissues inside (which is one of the nicest sounding muffs incidentally IMO). Now if they made a Mudhoney one, that would be a different story…(my biased opinion!)

October 27, 2010 at 3:23 pm #112236electro-melxModeratorThere’s one on ebay right now, so we should find out the answer to ‘what’s it worth’ soon.

I might have a bid myself, but I suspect it will go way over what I want to pay.
October 28, 2010 at 1:37 am #112265lucky_pierreMemberI would be very interested in this, I am a massive Mogwai/Big Muff fan.
Also, in regards to the person who said it’s the same as the NY Muff,
according to the wiki it has a “slightly more extreme” sound.October 28, 2010 at 9:57 am #112280electro-melxModeratorQuote:I would be very interested in this, I am a massive Mogwai/Big Muff fan. Also, in regards to the person who said it’s the same as the NY Muff,
according to the wiki it has a “slightly more extreme” sound.…but there isn’t any evidence for that at all. Scott Matthews (Mike Matthew’s Son) told us on here that as far as he knows they are no different. I wouldn’t be suprised if it’s a myth that’s been circulated around the internet.
Almost every Big Muff around will sound slightly different due to part tolerances etc. If you bought a Mogwai Muff it well may have a ‘slightly more extreme sound’ than the muff you already own but I don’t think it was designed to be that way. I used to own an early LBM (with the backwards vol/sustain) and that had loads more gain than any muff I’ve played through since.
October 28, 2010 at 3:01 pm #112270lucky_pierreMemberWell I still want one regardless, like I said, I love Mogwai and Big Muffs.
Anyway, I’m currently Muff-less… 😥November 2, 2010 at 12:18 pm #112339TheGhostMachinaMemberCryabetes, hadn’t heard anything by Mogwai until I saw this post. So decided to check ’em out last night (while reading the history of the Big Muff). Before I knew it, I had listened to the whole album. And I can now confirm, you are correct, they are the best guitar driven band. Love those Muff sounds!

P.S. I downloaded your bubble gum ep (I think that’s what it’s called), and plan to listen to it as soon as I finish these last few shows in Ontario:)
