I am looking at getting either or perhaps both the Micro Synthesizer and Hog if they are different.
Would like some advice as to the difference.
Is the Micro Synthesizer is a subset of the Hog or are the completely different?
How about the POG2, is this is a subset of the Hog or are they completely different
By different, I mean the end result of using the effect.

Polyphonic
Voices: -2, -1, original, +5th, +1, +1 + 5th, +2, +2 + 3rd, +3, +4
footswitchable 2 band Attack Decay Volume Envelope control
Low pass filter with Q.
Expression modes: octave bend, step bend, volume, wah, filter, freeze gliss, freeze volume
other stuff: spectral gate, presets with optional pedalPOG2:
Polyphonic
Voices: -2, -1, original, +1, +2
Low pass filter with Q
1 band attack volume control
other stuff: detuning for +octaves or + and original octaves, built in presetsMicrosynth:
Monophonic
voices: -1, +1, square, original
1 band attack volume control
attack filter with controllable start/stop and sweep speedto sum it up:
the main draw of the POG2 is that it’s polyphonic, has basic voices, built in presets, and a simple volume attack control and filter with detuned settings. Makes for good organ and other type sounds.
The main draw of the HOG is the multitude of the voices, the expression mode, and the much more versatile volume attack decay control.
The main draw of the Microsynth is the fat analog synth like sound (and many analog synths were monophonic) mixed with the awesome awesome filter. There aren’t any pedals out there that do what the Microsynth’s filter does. Most filter pedals don’t really have smooth sweeps, and they die out when your volume dies out. But the Microsynth filter is only triggered by your attack instead of following it, so it doesn’t have those sometimes bothersome quirks.

reviving this thread again, as i’m in the same dilemma – chosing POG2 or HOG.
I use the Digitech Whammy for Octave bends a lot and i’ve seen vids, which made me believe, that the HOG could do this even better and a lot more!
A few questions to HOG users or staff:1. The attack sliders of the HOG produce a volume swell sound like in the POG2 ?! slow AND fast?
2. Is there any other chance of getting and dialing in presets than to get the (very expensive) 6xfootswitch (i saw/read, that it’s plugged in via a normal 1/4″ jack, could you use just a normal footswitch to switch from preset to preset?) ?
3. do you think or know – will there be a HOG2 in a smaller housing and maybe with a kind of hazarai switch like on the SMMH or the POG2 ?
4. is it very hard to deal with the HOG in regards of volume differences from setting to setting?
your help would be very much apprechiated! thanks a lot

Yes, there is an attack envelope to do swells. The swell time is less than a second, but long enough to do convincing string instruments.

No. The HOG footswitch has a circuit. Each switch sends a unique signal to the HOG to trigger its preset memory.

A few months ago one of the EHX staff said that it was unlikely that we’d see an XO HOG, but who really knows? Personally, I like the large format of the HOG. It gives it more of a synthesizer feel, and it makes the controls easier to manipulate in real time
4. is it very hard to deal with the HOG in regards of volume differences from setting to setting?
No. There is an output level slider.

thanks for the reply. very interesting really. one last Q: the attack sliders dial in the swell time right? and the slowest is <1sec?
the size is in fact not the problem, only te preset button of the POG2 is very great i think!December 29, 2009 at 5:38 am #105789dEANdEESEParticipantI am trying to choose between the HOG and POG2. Is the HOG capable of achieving the sounds of the POG2 as well as the extra settings that it can do above and beyond?
I find myself wanting about 12 EHX pedals or so and I must narrow it down. I am mainly after “strings” effects
Thanks Much

January 4, 2010 at 8:27 am #106006julianModeratorI don’t know if I’d get a HOG to replace a POG and a Microsynth. Depends on what you use each one for, but IMO the filter sweep on the Microsynth is to die for. I have a HOG and want to get a Microsynth just for that.
January 4, 2010 at 5:26 pm #106022Josh33Memberwell, i already got rid of my microsynth, just not a big fan of it. it was defintily cool, but nothing i would ever use for. i feel that the HOG is more usable for the music i write, i may still keep the POG, or at least hold onto it until i see how i like the HOG!
