    I bought a Metal Muff last year and my jaw was still being scraped off the floor at how awesome it was. In opinion the best all round distortion pedal for metallers.

    However, now, the pedal has dropped in volume and sounds raspy at high distortion levels (even around 7).

    Raising the volume on the pedal results in aweful tone (it never used to go above half-tilt) and I can’t raise the master volume on my amp as the balance between clean and distortion would be off. As for the rasp on high distortion, I’ve tried all manner of separate overdrives but nothing helps at all.

    I’m not sure if it’s the diodes or connections that need replacing/servicing, but I don’t want to do anything until I’ve asked fellow EHX users!

    Any help much appreciated!

    Contact EHX and send it in for repair, they designed it they know how to fix it. I send my broken fx back unless its a very simple circuit that isn’t using SMD parts that I can fix myself. There’s not much you can do honestly, besides return it for repair. I’ve got a metal muff too, definitely my favorite heavy distortion and its good for overdriven marshall sounds too.

    I presume you’ve checked the battery/power supply, cables etc first just to make sure?

    Yeah I use 9v Power banks and duracell batteries for backups which I replace regularly, and I’ve just bought some rather pricey pro cables so I’m prety sure it’s not that.

    If this problem is still existing, I would highly recommend that you send it back for service. We can suss the problem right away and get it back to you the way you remember it.

    Painless and quick and done correctly.

    did you try using different cables with it? Sometimes a bad cable can affect distortion pedals.

    Yep I always have a good few backup cables/patch leads lying round in the studio plus I tried using my other guitarist’s leads also but no luck :(

    If this problem is still existing, I would highly recommend that you send it back for service. We can suss the problem right away and get it back to you the way you remember it.
