Good day everyone
I got a metal muff few months ago in evilbay. it worked well for couple of months. until last week, it stopped working. first the distortion sounded weak and muffled. then it slowly faded like a dying battery. i tried batteries and adaptor with no success. weird thing is, the led still turns on and the bypass signal still works. i know i cant return this anymore and i cant send it to ehx as well (out of warranty). though im pretty handy with the soldering iron. so if any ehx technicians out there know whats going on in the pedal, kindly point me out to the right direction. thanks

December 9, 2009 at 11:50 pm #105102severtheeMemberthanks for the input. i tested the protection diode, (theres no continuity) so i guess its not burnt or something. this will be harder than i thought. audio probing surface mounted component will ruin my eyes =[
February 3, 2010 at 1:42 pm #107093AKNealParticipantI’m having this same problem. All of the sudden I lost all distortion and basically have a really cool looking paper weight. I changed the battery and finally removed it completely. I used it with the power supply plugged in and only on battery power. It is a bunch of crap!! Does anyone know if there is a repair department for E-H? Thanks.

I found this on the New Sensor website:
http://www.newsensor.com/CutomerServices.aspxFebruary 28, 2010 at 10:50 pm #108048ghoullordMemberI have same problem but only when I engage top boost. Sound just disappears and faint hissing can be heard when all volumes are turned to max.
March 4, 2010 at 9:36 pm #108184kennyd-lectronicsMemberMine sends a very faint signal to the amp. Both LEDs light when you hit the switch(s), bypass cuts on and off, and boost does just that, but it is very very quiet. I’m ready for a recall.
July 27, 2010 at 7:42 am #110504guitarscrubMemberI just took a new Metal Muff top boost out of the factory box. I plugged my guitar into it & the light came on. There was already a battery installed and the red light was very bright. I stepped on the switch to disengage the pedal, turned my guitar volume down and turned my amp from standby to on. Turned my guitar volume up and could hear it fine with the Muff in bypass. When I engaged the Muff, both red lights came on and the volume went down so low I can barely hear it. Bypass=works fine, Engaged with or without Boost=crap. I switched batteries, tried a 1 spot and another 9v 200ma and a 9v 210ma adaptor. I’ve been reading forums all over the internet about different problems with this pedal.
I should have Googled “metal muff problem” before ordering 1. I wanted to play tonight and instead, wasted 4 hours researching a problem with a Brand New Metal Muff Top Boost.
Now I’ll waste some shipping tomorrow sending it in for repairs/replacement.
I couldn’t recommend this box to anyone. Don’t they have quality control dept that tests this new equip before shipping?? I’m pissed -
