So, I finally got my memory toy today!!
Compared to a DMM and Boss DM2 it sounds great!
Not as big and punchy as the DMM, and a bit more lofi.
Compared to the DM2 it’s less lofi and ambient and a bit more crisp.
Something in between the DMM & DM2 I guess.However:
1. It wont self oscillate. Even when pushed by a booster, nothing.
At max delaytime, it lasts quite a while, but no oscillation.
At minimum delaytime, max feedback and max mix there’s just a very, very slight reverby effect.
The reason I bought this was to replace the DM2 on my board, as I really like the DMM oscillation compared to the BOSS, but the BOSS’ lofi-ness..2. As someone have posted in other forums, the modulation is a bit over the top.
I really didn’t plan on using the modulation at all, so that’s OK. However, the ON/OFF toggle switch is very easy to flip to the on position when engaging the pedal. I was wondering if it’s OK to just turn the mod depth internal trim pot all the way to minimum??
There’s a thread on the subject here, with a video http://acapella.harmony-central.com/showthread.php?t=2446579
I know next to nothing about electronics, but have heard many a time that you shouldn’t mess with the internal pots of a BBD analog delay.-Eirik
Edit:
Called the store. They had one more, so I sent mine back.
Still wondering about the mod alteration though.. any thoughts?September 30, 2009 at 12:13 pm #101919hundirlaflotaMemberHi,
self-oscillation in analog delays can depend on the power supply.
I heard it’s better if the pedal has its own power supply than if it’s daisy-chained.
About the trimpot… I couldn’t say, I’m the kind of person that opens up pedals and messes with them, but hey, not everybody likes to do that and of course, it’s more risky than only plug the pedal and play…
Anyway, I’ve ordered a Toy myself and I plan on touching the mod depth trimpot if I figure out wich it is, so I’ll let you know if something bad happens
Best Regards

Tried the pedal solo, and with effects. It worked just the same.
But thanks! If you go to page two on the link from my original post, there’s a picture description of the correct pot.
Good luck messing with it!
Worked wonders, apparently, for that guy on the other forum!October 18, 2009 at 6:48 am #102390kaketzzMemberHi,
I have got the same problem … if you use the right adapter it works OK … it is very picky that way … I have tried it with TREX fuel tank jr. and it worked, but didn’t oscillate. With two different adapters it didn’t work at all. It however works OK with electro harmonic original 9.6V/200mA adapter.
On fresh battery works OK for 15 – 25 min. and than doesn’t manage to oscillate anymore … it seems like it drains the battery pretty fast.
Other than that is nice pedal .. quite some noise when the repeats are engaged, but not really noticeable on low “blend” settings.October 22, 2009 at 6:43 pm #102539eirikapettMemberI got my second MT a while ago, but almost the same thing. A bit more feedback, but no oscillation. Mod still terrible. I tried the boy also. No good. I am sorry to say this, because i really wanted to love these pedals, but I think the good folks at EHX jumped the gun on these ones. I didn’t expect this to be as great at a DMM, but these pedals are nothing compared. The DMM is an instrument, a “beast” you have to tame! A really inspiring pedal to play, and play around with. The MB & MT aint. Sorry. Utube videos reveal a very inconsistent quality on the feedback an d mod side on the new ones. Probably should have gone through a bit more rigorous testing..
If the good people of EHX care for a bit of feedback, you really should reverse the mod switch on the toy, so it’s not so easy to accidentally switch on the mod while engaging the pedal. Hell, remove the mod option all together. make the toy a basic analog delay. Increase the feedback possibilities so they can oscillate. Yes, it is juvenile fun, but an analog delay that can’t make crazy oscillations lacks something important.DMM is still nr 1!

Maybe this is the reason why they’re so affordable. I bought the MB when it first came out and returned a week later. Other than the horrible mod section it just seemed to lack something. It didn’t inspire me…which is what a pedal should do iMO! However, I do wish I’d kept it and maybe given it a second shot. I’ve actually considered getting another used one just to be sure but with the new Malekko 616, which sounds and appears to be much better, and the constant complaints on the MT and MB I’m reconsidering.
DMM is still the man though!

Interestingly, my MT starts self-oscillating with the feedback past 1 o’clock. I just got it yesterday, but noticed that quickly
Is this the correct behaviour?
