I bought a Memory Boy about a week ago, and i really dig it, but i’ve noticed a couple things that are odd and I was hoping someone could shine some light on these issues…
The first thing was the repeats started oscillating at about 1
o clock on the knob and didn’t go for long before oscillation. Also, I realized that I could only get about 300ms or so with the delay time maxed out. When I pluged a patch cable into the exp. jack it let me access the full 550ms. I tried using it with an old ibanez adapter I had laying around and the memory boy worked perfectly. Full delay time, and the feedback knob had a much longer repeat time before going into oscillation, much more like other analoge delays I own. Why is this? Both adapters have the same volts and ma. It’s not a huge deal because I can always use it with the ibanez adapter, but I would think it should work properly with the one it came with….
My other question is specifically about the adapter that are shipping with new EHX pedals. When I bought my Mem Man Hazari and my Mem Boy (months apart, different stores) they both came with generic “replacement for Boss or Ibanez” adapters. Is this what they are shipping with now? What ever happened to the EHX adapters? and why won’t the Mem Boy work properly with the one it was supplied with?
If anyone could help me with this it would be much appreciated, or if you’ve had similer experiances I would love to know. Overall I love EHX. I think they make the most inovative and inspiring effects out there. Thanks.

Both my Mem Man Hazari and Mem Boy came with ‘replacement for boss or ibanez” adapters, is this what you guys are getting aswell?….bump

are you outside of the US by any chance? I’m in the UK and I’ve never bought an EHX pedal that came with an ‘EHX’ power supply, they have always been the ‘replacement for boss/ibanez’ type you are talking about.

February 18, 2010 at 8:27 am #107658eirikapettMemberI’m experiencing roughly the same thing here. On the stock supply the Boy has clear, punchy repeats. It oscillates at 2.30, but the echotime is actually shorter than my Boss DM2, so less than 330ms. If I power it from my voodoolab PP2 the echotime is the same as on my DMM. But, the echo volume is considerably lower, it does not oscillate and the repeats loose definition after about second or third repeat. The repeats also resonate considerably on the higher frequencies. It’s actually kind of cool, though. Like a DM2 only brighter. Feels more like a reverb than an echo when you play.
All the MB/MT I’ve tried have reacted a bit different. And they also seem to in the youtube videos. So I guess it’s a calibration issue? Does anyone know how to tweak the pots to perfection?
One more thing. At first I was kind of disappointed it didn’t capture more of the DMM vibe, but if you take it for what it is, it’s really a great pedal!! One thing I’ve noticed though is that where the DMM sounds great with almost anything (drummachines, synths, guitars, bass) the memboy really shines with guitars, but not so much on anything else. Seems to fit the guitars frequency specter spot on! Just a heads up to anyone considering it..

I’d really like to know if anyone has a solution to the PSU problem with the memboy. As I said in my last post, this seems like two differnet pedals on the different PSUs. I’d really like to have the punch and clarity the pedal gets on the stock supply but with my PP2. But keep the full 550ms it gets when powered by the pp2. If anyone has any ideas what to do, I’d greatly appreciate it. Perhaps use som kind of resistance and give it 12v lowered to around 9,5? Anyone? Because I don’t know..
All help would be greatly appreciated!March 20, 2010 at 2:41 pm #108662rocker_71MemberQuote:The Boss and Ibanez replacement adaptor is the correct adaptor for the Memory Boy and Hazarai and many other newer EHX pedals.Since when do EHX uses the Boss style plug?
Because in the old days (my old Holy Grail and Big Muff) have the small plug on it.But on all the newer (nano) effects, it looks like they are all Boss style center negative plugs..
March 20, 2010 at 4:04 pm #108666ToonsterMemberWell, I think it is because almost every pedal nowadays are using those plugs, it’s just more easy I think!
