Hi there
I’ve just been given a Memory Boy delay pedal and after spending a good couples of hours with it I’ve noticed that the feedback knob is VERY sensitive past 2 o’clock, to the point where it starts oscillating madly and often at ear piercing levels.
I’m intending to use the pedal with long delay and long feedback for the type of shoegaze music I’m playing but it is difficult to do this with the feedback knob flipping out just past 2 o’clock (with my last delay pedal, admittedly a cheap digital delay, I could crank the feedback knob up to maximum).
Does anyone have any answers as to why it is doing this and any suggestions to prevent this but still get long repeated sounds?
Look forward to hearing from you.

Also, some people really like and use that feedback!

So, am i right in thinking then that a Memory Boy is better for appying to solos/single note work rather than to chords?
many thanks

April 6, 2011 at 9:05 pm #114918TheGhostMachinaMemberI have the DMB, and I love it. I use an expression pedal to control the feedback (exp jack/or volume pedal in fx loop, depending on situation). But for longer delays I tend to lean more towards my SMMwH (Digital). Also, the max delay time of the DMB can vary depending on the temperature. The colder it is, the shorter the delay time. I usually allow a half hour for it to warm up.

I have spent the evening looking at You Tube vids of people demoing the MB and two guys have been able to get the feedback knob all the way around to 5 o’clock with no self oscillation. This is what i want but am having trouble achieving!! They are able to get the classic decay sound while I can get bugger all, is it really all to do with temp or is each MB different because of the analogue circuitry?
April 6, 2011 at 11:33 pm #114922TheGhostMachinaMemberJust powered up with the adaptor.. Basically the same amount of time as my tube amp;). And yeah, yer prob gonna notice slight differences from unit to unit. With the proper equipment, it is possible to make adjustments internally. And sometimes units may need to be sent to EHX for calibration. Adjusting anything internally on yer own could make it stop working altogether. But there are other threads about that;)
Mine will self oscillate around 3 o’clock.. +/- depending on where I have the blend and gain set.

April 9, 2011 at 6:12 pm #114947MylesMemberWell, I let the pedal warm up and yes it did have longer delay/feedback times, although post 3 o’clock on the feedback knob is still impossible. I wouldn’t say its sold the problem entirely but it is much better. I’m going to try it with my cheapy digital delay in the chain, see what happens.

https://www.ehx.com/forums/viewthread/4521/#30748these people have the opposite problem (their memory boy’s won’t do what yours does and they want it to!!) maybe get in touch and do a swap?
