Home › Forums › Help/Technical Questions › MEL9 – placement on a pedalboard
Hi,
I’ve just purchased an MEL9 and would like to know the best placement for it on my pedalboard.
Currently I use modulation, phase & delay pedals thru’ the effects loop of my amp and a second chain of gain pedals linked to the pre-amp input of the amp.
I would suspect that the MEL9 will sit in the effects loop chain but should I keep the dry signal output of the MEL9 unplugged for best results?
I’d be grateful for your advice.
Thanks
My instruction sheet says put the Mel9 first in the chain. It also says the Mel9 won’t do good in the effects loop. I have mine running to an A/B box. I have my guitar going through my pedal board to one amp. Another out goes to the Mel9 and the second amp. I turn the dry “off” and run only the effects. If you turn “off” the Mel9 you still get the dry out even if the vol is dowm to zero.
I have a gig in a week and will try the Mel9 wet through the PA. I can say right now a compressor in front of the Mel9 is a plus.

Yes in front is best. Compressor after or before. I like it after the Mel9.
in the end its what works best for you.

Thanks for your help.
I’ve put the MEL9 inthe first position on my board after my BOSS TU-2 Tuner. It works well in that slot. I have a Pedal Power voltage supply that happily supplies the 9v power for all my pedals and successfully powers up the MEL 9. However, If I leave the pedal board plugged in with the MEL9 attached & plugged in, although I turn the effect button on the MEL9 off, the MEL9 pedal won’t work when I return & turn the amp back on.
Having said that, the MEL9 will successfully power back up again if I disconnect it from the pedal board and then re-connect it!!
Is there a thermal cut-out on the MEL9, please? Is this a problem that I need to return the pedal for, please?
